What did you all drive back in the day?

I started out with a '73 MGB, then a '93 Honda Del Sol, '97 Prelude, then out of college got a new '01 C5 Z51 and I have since vacillated between horsepower V8 cars, some flat six P-cars, trucks, and lower horsepower, but light and fun sports cars like my old '05 S2000 and my current '22 BRZ.

My last two purchases have been a '24 Corolla GR and my now current '24 Integra Type S. There is just something about relatively lightweight, fun to fling around town, sports cars/sedans. That said, never getting rid of my C6 ZR1 or 5BW if at all possible. Always fun to have rocketships where rear-wheel traction is a significant issue.

I am a big fan of the Integra Type S - I think Honda nailed it. I'm partial to RWD>FWD though otherwise I possibly could be driving one now over the 4 V BW (though I think the Caddy has more going for it in other areas as well).

I'd be interested in your impressions of the Integra...and the Corrolla GR and BRZ as well....how each handle, accelerate and fun to drive etc....and as opposed to the 5 V BW & the Vette (whole nother class understood).

CT4BW is superior to ITS. I got the ITS as it had more rear-seat room and cargo room than the GR, though I'd argue the GR was a touch more fun to zip around town due to the AWD traction and the more immediate turn-in compared to the ITS. Absolute handling and performance favors the ITS a little bit once you play to the FWD handling and using the front limited slip under throttle to help get out of corners. Both great cars, ITS is a big more complete, GR is a bit more toy, but awesome fun.

BRZ is the most fun car I have for zipping around town, but I use it for track days mostly nowadays (while I'm between P-cars) as it's small and hauling my two boys in it isn't safe nor practical. ZR1 is my baby, owned it for 13 years since new and it's a fun rocketship to take out a few times a month. I started tracking it when it was new, but retired it a few years ago to just around town and highway blasts. Still running great and is an awesome car.

CT5BW is the executive rocketship, it handles great even if it's turn-in isn't quite a 4BW, BRZ, etc., it's absolute handling is very impressive given it's 4k weight. Acceleration is big, braking is big (with the carbon brakes), overall it's probably the best overall car I own with comfort, utility, speed, handling, chassis, suspension, creature comforts, etc.

ITS is used as a weekend/evening daily car as I have a '23 Silverado 1500 LTZ 3.0 duramax (great engine/powertrain!) as a work truck during the week. Wife drives a '23 Tesla Model Y LR. Great vehicle for what it is. 12k miles so far with zero issues.

Great write up quikag! Gives me a great feel for your cars - past and present. No doubt the 5 V BW rules all in a sense...can understand why. GR Corolla seems much like my GTI - with AWD>FWD...but the little GTI is a handling wonder (I've made it so) and has beastly power (seems faster than the 4 v BW...but pretty close regardless). Don't ever sell that ZR1!

My youngest son has an older Toyota 86 thats a bit tricked out and I love driving it when I can (he leaves it here when he flies somewhere as we're close to the airport). Its still relatively slow...but is fun to wind out and push through curves.

I've never been on a track (but that changes this April with a Spring Mountain experience). My shop guys were always pushing me to take my Audi to VIR where they said its power would do well. It handles pretty great too...in most situations...

I'm happy to see the last couple of posts as I'm exactly the same way. Impulsive and bored quickly!! The last few years have been great for car lovers as most have not depreciated very quickly. I'm around 30 cars in my 30 years of driving. Some highlights:

First Car - 82 Toyota Corolla 5sp with a nice brown interior matching the brown exterior! Thanks to my grandfather
Two S2000s : a 2000 and a 2005 - Really disliked the 2005 after having had the 2000.
1994 Mazda RX-7 : I never should have sold it
B5 Audi S4 : Forget the year; really enjoyed that car, manual
A bunch of 3 series BMWs : All automatics for the woman; my first was a 335i sedan that was one of the best cars I ever owned from a reliability and fun factor stand point; a 335is, a 335 GT
2012 Porsche Cayenne : A manual; didn't have for long; sold to my buddy

Currently own a 2022 Rivian R1T but will be selling it along with my CT4VBW.

Many, many more. Some other interesting ones to the very mundane (like a 1991 Mitsu Eclipse bought for like $1000 to be a commuter car that got rear ended and was given like $600 cash to fix )

First Car - When I was 15, I talked our dad into buying us a 1969 Z-28. I remember the day when a friend called to let me know that a truck had arrived at our small town Chevrolet dealer with a blue Z-28. I believe it was in November of 1968. Loved that car but between my brother and I, well it wasn't in good shape when it went away.

I had an AP1 also; curious why you liked the 1 so much more than the AP2? Difference in redline, suspension tuning, something else?

I was surprised by how much I didn't like the AP2 S2000. I didn't even really test drive it thinking it would be very similar. I'm hardly some great driver, forget being a racer, but the AP1 felt visceral, raw, it was like you were screaming down the road. The AP2 felt "too grown up" to me. They both drove fine, but it felt like the AP2 was detuned even though it was not. It felt mundane to me in comparison.

I like how you roll. That Eagle Talon would have been and still would be quite a hoot with that kind of power. MK IV Supra - legendary (a friends 700-800 hp single turbo version fastest car I've ever driven)....E36 M3 - old school pure fun....S 2000 - even better (one of my favorite all time cars)...etc

I once had an opportunity to do a direct swap of my Audi S4 (st 3) with a 500 hp S2000 (young guy with a new family said my S4 wagon would be perfect for them). I though about it (what a car his was...and I want)....but I loved my all season, great utility, fast as F S4 so much I couldn't do it. I regret that I didn't make the trade to this day. Shortly after began having more engine/turbo issues with the S4 and ended up selling it for a song. I would probably still be driving and enjoying that S2000 now and not lusting after another 2 seater like a Caymen or such.

I actually still have the supra. Makes 960whp now. I miss the s2000 and my talon a ton too and wish I kept them, but hey, something had to pay for the supra!

The most engaging, raw driving car was the s2000. So much fun in every aspect. Had zero issues with it over 4 years of daily driving. Sold it, the next kid caught it on fire within the first few months some how.

Cool cars include my brothers 63 Impala with a 327 and 4 speed. My love of sports cars started with a 82 or 83 Ford GT V8 Mustang. It was replaced by the new Toyota Supra that came out in 85 or 86. Then a long lapse till a 2011 C5, 2009 C6, 2013 Grand Sport C6, 2017 C7, 2017 Chevy SS sedan, and a 2020 ZL1.

Next was my 2022 CT5 Blackwing. And now onto my last, and present sports car which is a 2023 Honda Type R Civic. The Type R has been the most fun of any of them.

Car had a straight 6 and was slower than riding a bike but it did look good for a 18 year old driver.

Had many a Camaro since with my current one being a 2018 2SS Hot Wheels, garage queen.
