Spring Mountain Impressions

What are the costs of adding your spouse to the trip? It would go along way towards boosting my wifes interest in buying a brand new BW. Though she is already onboard more or less.
It costed $40 for her to join me at Spring Mountain so that and her airline tickets.

My wife was going to go, but when we learned I was not getting on campus housing, she punched out (and it was definitely the right choice). I know my wife and know that she would have been bored to death attending the classes and hates fast driving as a passenger. However, I stayed extra time in Vegas to enjoy the Mirage one last time and she was very disappointed not to be there for that. By the way, they say you need a car to get around the facility, but unless you're completely and utterly anti-social, you can poach a ride from your new friends...especially the one that rented a mini-van ;)

If she wants to drive, ~$3,500.

My wife and I were lucky to get a on-site condo. She can be social and hung out with 2-3 other wives in the clubhouse. Then they went into Pahrump to see some stores. My wife also used the on-site gym. She also did a ride along that the instructors ask you how fast do you want to go. We spent a week in Vegas after it was done. The summer must be very hot and uncomfortable. They do have a pool, a golf putting green and outside patio that is very nice. We were there in February and it was a bit chilly.

I was there those days as well. Great time but it was surprising cold (and windy) the first day.
Oh yeah looking at the cars you own, I sat and had a couple meals with you! I have a Coastal Blue CT4V Blackwing and was there with my brother-in-law and sat in the front row. I had such an amazing time that I'm thinking about selling my Blackwing and getting something less expensive that I can afford to track regularly lol. Still 50/50 on it though.

I have a car I could track, and I'd rather be rid of it. I am looking at coming back to Spring Mountain and doing the Level 1 class. Of course then I'd have to slum it in a Corvette.

I was there last week. I was talking to one of the instructors, and he said that Cadillac has approached them about doing a Level 1 class using Blackwings. I would be on-board for that.

I'll second that. I think we may have been in the same class! I was there with my GF, the couple from Michigan. GO LIONS!

I am scheduled for November 6-7. I'm really looking forward to this. I've done several driving schools and track days in the past, but it has been almost 20 years since my last track day. I'm sure I won't be anywhere near the fastest since I have a bunch of rust to knock off my driving skills, and I couldn't care less. I'm just thrilled to get back on the track again.
I did the Spring Mountain class last week. What a blast! The instructors are very easy to work with and work hard to tailor their instruction to each student's skill level. As it turns out, I was able to knock off much of my rust far quicker than I expected.

The class was so good that I realized I would gladly have paid to take it. I highly recommend it to anyone, even if you have no plans or desire to take your own car to the track.

Awesome. Pleasure was ours, Todd! Great to meet you and talk to you!

I'd definitely be down for that

I will be going March 3-4. How many people have signed up for the expensive insurance?

I did. The insurance has a $2500 deductible, but if you end up in a tire wall it would be pretty easy to do damage well over that amount. That said, the way the school is run makes it pretty unlikely that would happen unless you REALLY mess up or you have a complete loss of brakes.

I did it mainly because I assumed the school cars had carbon fiber -- it would be really easy to do $2500+ damage to the front spoiler even in a minor off-track excursion. As it turns out, my school car did not, and I don't remember seeing any of the cars with CF spoilers.

If you look at the specific wording of what everyone here keeps calling "insurance", what is being offered by Spring Mountain isn't insurance at all, whether at the minimum amount or higher.
At best - and the wording isn't even that great for us in this regard - it's actually just a waiver by them of your liability for crash damage to a certain higher or lower amount, in exchange for your waiving their liability and indemnifying them for a heck of a lot of other things.
Sorry for the sobering news but I can't help myself for pointing that out given what I do for a living (take a guess).
For my part, I plan to go back for a second time in late March, having some fun, and all without running anything or anyone over.

Nice T.O on Spring Mountain (reboot) and well explained on the "insurance" clause.

BTW, you get a second bite at the apple with Spring Mountain? Did you have a 22 5BW once upon a time? Now a 24 5BW?

I've been thinking about registering for the next phase at Spring Mountain. Great setup there, well run and it's a blast! Heading to the West Coast in 2025 on a few trips....may try and sneak in again.

Don't forget that the easiest part of the school to actually do some damage, is on the autocross. Running over a cone can do some damage depending on circumstances.

Heading out to SM this week. Are we on our own for lunch and dinner? If so, any recommendations near by?

Lunch and breakfast are provided at the clubhouse and was very good both days. I went out for dinner to a Thai restaurant called Chatthai Bistro that was excellent (I wasn’t expecting it to be as good as it was as Parhump isn’t a big city). Enjoy your time there…it’s a blast!
