Spring Mountain Impressions

GM denied my extension. I couldn't go within the first year due to a newborn and got approved by Spring Mountain for July, but GM said no. That's a ton of fun...
Bummer. How far past were you? I know others who went after 12 months, but I imagine there are limits. The class is awesome, I hope you get there one way or another. The guy I sold my 2022 to, he paid to go maybe 6 weeks ago and felt is was well worth the expense.

I'm only 13 months into ownership. I think the problem was I scheduled for July so at that point it'd be much longer. I figured the extension was just to get on the calendar, not to actually take the class.

Yeah thats the thing they said. You have 12 months officially to take the class. I'd say new owners should start calling as soon as they get their car.

Honestly with ~3-4k yearly combined ct4 and ct5 sales, and the fact the class is 18 students and runs on average slightly less than every week (it's not consistent but there appears to be 20 sessions between now and August) it works out to roughly less than 1000 students for the year.

So realistically only 1/3rd or 1/4 of students will be able to take the class.

Edit: I think I'll start a poll to see what the take rate on the class is.

I will say that I've had at least two (if not three) Corvette schools at Spring Mtn that I have *not* done - meaning, I bought the cars, qualified, but did not do the schools. I was racing pretty much every available weekend at the time. I looked at the cost / time to go out there versus w2w and it was easy to pass, at the time. Things have slowed down a bit now, so - really looking forward to it!

Yeah it just sucks. My son was (and is) more important than attending. I wish GM would cut me some slack.

I bought my car the end of August 2024. Was told no space until late April or May 2025. I called enough that I knew all the marketing people by name and in November I got a call that they had a cancelation . Signed up for the week before Thanksgiving. Weather was great. Apparently
there are last minute cancellations fairly often so if you have a flexible schedule you might beat the GM deadline.

Here is an idea.....that might work. Find a new Blackwing owner who is NOT attending and use their VIN#/name to apply (with their permission) and do your submission . SM , if I recall, never really checked my ID when I signed in. It was all verbal at the desk. They asked my name and assigned my room for the stay.

Spring Mountain Driver during the demo lap: "Uhhhh.... I've never met a white dude named Susie Nakamura..."

"Yeah I go by Bob"

Any idea on when they open open up dates? Are they released on a set interval? The website only shows dates through the end of August.

Call them and get put on the list - that's the best way. Take a look at the shown dates and see what works best for you. You'll get a day's heads-up about the email coming out with the new list and the time - so be ready to act QUICK!

I'm flying to Vegas tomorrow to go to the session this Friday and Saturday (2/21-2/22). Really looking forward to it. Anyone else here going?
I’ll be there. Really looking forward to getting back on the track, it has been a few years since I’ve last been. When I bought a Focus RS many years ago they did something similar and it was a great experience.

If you've completed the course at Spring Mountain, would you say it's worth doing twice? I am thinking about paying my way the first time, and then if I end up ordering a new car, doing it again. Just curious if you think there's enough value/drive-time to make it worth experiencing two times. Thanks!

Heading there in about 2 weeks, can't wait!

It’s a deal so nice, I’m doing it twice… but it’s free for me both times because I’m on my 2nd Blackwing.
In fact, I’m going to be there in just a few days.
Speaking of which, who else here is going to be there on Friday?

Me, my son and grandson will be there April 23rd and 24th. Because of health issues, including bouts with vertigo, my son is going in my place. Me and my grandson are attending as guests. Still, I can't wait to go.

I know GM pays SM about $4000 for the 2 day course. What do they charge if you pay your own way? Same price?
I think it is. I had a few people in my group that paid their own way.

Honestly as good as the course is, if I'm paying my own way I wouldn't do it twice.

I'd pay similar money for a driving course in car I don't own, like the 2 day Porsche driving course that costs 4.5k.

I haven't done the Porsche course but my work buddy and I are considering it (he is porsche crazy, but due to being a practical guy drives a Subaru outback, but he recently got divorced so he might actually get a 911 now).
