2025 CT4-V Blackwing
Never been much of a GM guy but bought my mom a CT4 Sport in 2021 when she finally decided to give up her beloved, 15-year old BMW 325i and, while I hated the 4-cylinder motor, I was surprised at how much I liked the styling. For this Christmas I traded her up to an XT5 with the V6 and thought the car was really well done. So Cadillac was on my mind...

At the same time my wife started making noises about me buying a "grown-up" car (my current garage is a bunch of air-cooled Porsches and a 705hp Roush F150) so that meant a sedan was in my future and I managed to snag a good deal on a 2025 CT4-V BW in Coastal Blue with a 6-speed, sunroof delete, upgraded interior, PVD, tech/climate packages and some other interior goodies. My version of a grown-up car.

Drove it home to Austin from Dallas and even keeping the car under 4K rpm I have a feeling this is going to be fun.

Less than 300 miles on the odometer and the car is already torn apart as we're installing the full CF1/CF2 packages from the guys at Tapout who have been really great to work with. Planning on a mild tune of some sort to get maybe another 100-150hp and the I'll see how much fun she really is.

Great forum and I've already learned a lot. Looking forward to getting to know everyone.

Welcome and hope you enjoy your GM! GM simply get's Zero respect and out of all the crap I have owned GM powertrain and parts simply are better as being more durable and much cheaper on operational costs over the longevity of ownership. I keep looking at CT4's I bet they are a blast to drive......

As a 16-year old Ford guy whose first car was a 1968 Mustang, I certainly did my fair share of sh***ing on GM products (Camaros, Chevelles) exactly as a 16-year old Ford guy is supposed to do. Then as a 40-year old Porsche and Ferrari guy, I switched it up sh***ing on Corvettes. But this car might change my mind and I hope you'll all forgive me for my past sins.

I will say that the finish quality on my BW is atrocious if you really get into the details. The paint quality is terrible compared to German cars and much of the trim is laughable (how about that partially trimmed trunk done in some sort of ill-fitting cardboard and with unfinished edges?). Don't even get me started with GM's tendency to use a cheap plastic clip to hold something together when a screw at $.05 more would be infinitely better.

BUT...

I get it.

To get those final details from Porsche or BMW you're going to spend 20-30% more (at least). My car nicely optioned had an MSRP of $73,335 which I negotiated down to $69,211. I'm adding about $7k of Tapout carbon fiber, maybe $1k of misc. goodies, and planning on doing I mild tune to wake her up a little bit. Said and done, I'm going to be all-in for less than $85k and I can't think of anything - German or otherwise - that could possibly get me more bang for the buck.

And, besides, how often do I really open the trunk and look at the edges of the trim panels?? Priorities.

Similar to you, I was a Ford guy growing up. Taurus S.H.O with a 5 speed was my first fun car. Years later got a Fiesta ST, then a Focus RS, all manual. My 4 Blackwing is my first GM product and maybe my favorite car I’ve owned. I’m hoping my Porsche phase comes in my 40’s 🙂

I find the cars that are the most satisfying/fun to drive, I enjoy the most. I also had an AMG that isn’t in my top 3, despite being the most expensive car I’ve owned. I think the more enjoyable/satisfying the car is to drive, the more forgiving I am with the imperfections.

Also nice spec you have, post some pictures when you get a chance.

I hear ya LOUD and clear! The reality is ALL the MFG's are playing the same game...just as cheaply as possible out the factory door and to the warranty standard. Sure my CHEVY door handle and turn signal stalk is toast along with my other CHEVY plastic bits! The engine and Trans though is GM's claim to fame.....don't be afraid to pound that V-6 turbo my man it can handle it without the operational costs that come from POUNDING!
