If you don’t mind, I’m going to briefly applaud my own forever car, a 32 year-old MR2, with these shots taken a few winters ago while visiting our in-laws in Quebec:As a forever car I find it difficult to subject it to winter conditions so I applaud everyone else who does.
Where, by the way, winter rubber is actually a matter of law, December to March.
Full disclosure: I never leave it so brutally exposed to the elements when it’s at home in relatively balmy Toronto.
Here, it’s usually parked in the garage, as I don’t take it out during or immediately after major winter storms, just in dry weather or on milder winter days.
Same thing with the Blackwing, my current go to pickup hockey car (barring really bad weather, in which case I’ll take the wife’s Mazda).
Also, I wash all three of our cars much more often in the winter, either at a self-wash or a nearby touchless wash station, to reduce the harm caused by all the road salt they use around here.
Incidentally, I don’t foresee my Blackwing ever joining ‘ole Mister Two as a forever car.
That’s not because of concerns over GM versus Toyota build quality, or simple older tech versus fussy, highly computerized new.
Rather, it’s because come the year 2057 (i.e., 32 years from now), it’s more likely my own body will either be garaged or on ice by then than any of my cars.
