V-Series Cadillac(s)?
eventually 2023 CT4-VBW
As some of you know I've had issues with the check engine light since August of last year - my car is a 2023 CT4 BW with now approximately 17,200 miles on it. The last time it was in the shop (October) they changed out the ECM and I everything was good, then starting in late December early January I would get a message that something was wrong with the instrument cluster, but didn't take it in. Then 2 weeks ago the check engine light came on again and I took it back in - they informed me last week that the wiring harness was going to have to be replaced.... I did have the recall fixed back when it first came out. This is the 4th time the car has been in for the check engine light since August. Should I contact Cadillac about my car being a lemon?? Is this going to devalue my car??? Anyone else having problems with the check engine light coming on???

Assuming your issue is fixed, as a buyer looking at CarFax........It would not really concern me that the record shows multiple service visits. If it showed engine or transmission or other major part replacement, yes that would be a value subtractor to me.
If the car gets bought back as a lemon, I don't think what I the buyer thinks is relevant. It would be GM's concern, not yours.

Between wife, two driving-age kids, and whatever my reasons are, I have a small fleet of cars and I do all the maintenance and service work on them. However, if one with an active warranty needs troubleshooting, I can't get it to the dealer fast enough. I got 99 problems but a warrantied check engine light ain't one. In other words, make it dealers problem and work the process. The case for it being a lemon or not starts with regular service visits for the same unresolved issue.

I think they are "always" resolving the issues, it's just different things they are trying to figure out... 1st it was a factory update, 2nd was manifold, 3rd was ECM and now wiring harness. Does that qualify as the same unresolved issue is one of the things I'm pondering... the dealership has been great and always calls in a GM engineer.

I'm not an expert, but I think a lemon case is based on a specific issue that isn't resolved in a fixed time period. Mechanical things fail and the dealer/GM are upholding their end of the deal, so sounds like you just a bit unlucky here. I think you would have a tough time making a lemon case at this point.

That's what I was wondering - if nothing else I have a lot of new parts....

and now wiring harness.
Our wiring harnesses are wrapped in tape that has a soy adhesive. Rodents LOVE it and will seek it out. You need to make sure your garage is fully baited so rodents eat the poison and not the yummy tape around your wires. Buy it by the bucket and use it.

Brand new house, no signs of rodents.

If you're seriously considering the lemon law, contact an attorney who specializes in the lemon law not Cadillac. Let the attorney do what they do. Documentation is key.

I've reached out to two attorneys and neither have returned my call.....

Update - my car has been in the shop for 4 weeks today. I have gotten updates, the wiring harness had to be replaced and of course that means taking out the engine. The engine is back in and I'm hopeful maybe by the end of the week I can get my car back. On another note - Cadillac V Series has a Facebook page and I made a comment about the trouble I've had with my check engine light, they reached out to me and have opened a case. They've been in contact with the dealership and are communicating well with me. At least everything is now documented directly with Cadillac.

Getting it fixed is great, I would work with Cadillac on a form of compensation (especially if you have financed through GM) as an under warranty vehicle in the shop so long while you make payments is annoying.

Shit happens, but I would hope if you are now talking to Cadillac they might be able to at least offer you a little something for dealing with all this regardless of the issue getting fixed.
