Multi-topic thread on retirement and second car

I told my wife that the hardest part of the next 3 months will be not answering every question with "I don't give a shit".

I just pass off all the boring work to junior engineers. It’s part of my mentoring role.

I have been retired for about 3 years now. I actually lost track. I walked out in mid-July and kept getting my checks until the following March ! I will still be getting yearly checks in April for all of my unused sick time and terminal leave. I go to bed whenever I feel like (usually 2am) and I will sleep until my 11am. If I wake up early, I will find a way to spend my money. The winter sucks because I can't work on my cars like I do in the warmer weather. I just hope that I live a long healthy life with my wife and we get to do alot of traveling !

Well let’s see, Orange Jesus gets in Jan 20…the debt ceiling will be hit at around that same time, then we get entertained by the cabinet candidates senate hearings….the ones with brain worms, paying off a sexual assault claim, saying Jan 6th terrorists are hero types and more. All that will take maybe two months to, well whatever. Soooo, I’ll have my final day in the office on May 2nd. So from Jan 20th till then I’m not planning to do much. I want to thank all the conservatives and their taxes for paying my salary for 32 years which allowed me to have some fun cars and motorcycles.

Look don't be so judgemental. Many would refer to me as a liberal and I'm a pretty nice guy, pay plenty of taxes, own (long) guns, and have many views on things you might find surprising (and even agree with). I have often called myself a bleeding heart libertarian...and I don't consider that to be a bad thing.

I have many friends (and relatives) and certainly prior coworkers whom I consider far to the right of myself politically and we were/are always able to get along without rancor. I think we should be able to manage here too. I like all of you but the fact that we have different preferences WRT paint colors on cars or other stuff, shouldn't at all be a factor (and isn't for me).

I once had an old guy working for me who was very rich and very conservative (though fun fact - he dined with Obama in the White House the night prior to both his inaugurations....as his wife was his biggest donor....collectively including mostly other folks $). Anyway, he always complained about and objected to social programs for poor folks etc. I asked him if he paid for insurance on his house, car etc, He said yes. I suggested he look at it as insurance to perhaps prevent those folks from maybe scaling his walls one day to take what he's got.

We should all be grateful here that we have it so good...and that we've been lucky enough to be born (or at least to live regardless) in the USA. Life is good. Happy New Years everyone....may it be a great one for all (regardless).

I agree 100%. Most of us here are truly blessed with wealth, good jobs, good families and good health.

My wife works in senior living and she has some real (sad) horror stories. The saddest ones involve folks who have cancer or Alzheimer's who, they and their families, need help.....and not all are "seniors".

Sometimes we (and I) forget how good we have it. I know I'm very blessed. I wish all of us a great New Year and hope it's healthy, wealthy, safe and a lot of fun.....no matter which side of the fence you fall on.

When they ask me how to get to the mall, I send them to Anacostia instead or they ask “can I park here”….i say sure, knowing they will get towed.

To recap for those just joining and likely one of the last posts on this thread. So far he has lobbed insults on pretty much everyone he comes in contact with. Told a forum member he wanted to shit on them and told others to fuck off. I joined in to defend myself and others against personal attacks. - I have been reasonably tempered about it and trying to add some humor to it. But this person has no sense of humor or perspective. He needs real professional help and my new years wish for him is to get help.

This is a car forum, so a word of advice, don’t get all up in my (and others) grill.
