CT4-V CT4 V blackwing vs RS3 6 months later

Cadillac CT4-V model
I've long had the suspicion that the RS6 is exactly as you describe it - regardless of performance specs. Shame.

My (MT) B5 S4 Avant was anything but boring. Reviews from the time suggested it wasn't an engaging car - they were so wrong. Of course when I bought mine used it was already Stage 2 and within a year I had replaced/upgraded the turbos as well as coilovers/suspension and added a nice Stoptech brake kit. Car was a monster and great fun to drive. I really surprised a hard charging Boxster S once when I passed him on some (4 lane) twisities at high speed holding the road at speed better then he could.

I think you'll find the 5 BW very engaging in all the right ways and probably will dump that (boding) RS6 pretty quickly....let us know how it turns out.
I had a similarly modded MT B5 S4 Avant back in the day and absolutely loved it.

Used to run it in Driver Education events with the Porsche Club and blow by them in the straights, with a Baby on Board sign in the back window just to piss them off (and it did!).

Have had a bunch of high powered wagons, they are truly practical, I’ve hauled some stuff with the RS6 for sure.

Wish I never sold that B5 S4…

The many miles of joy I had with that car oh my. The many years of pain due to unreliability....argh. It spent nearly 2 years sidelined with a blown bottom end that resulted in blown...well nearly everything - after a botched bottom end repair. I won a court settlement but was never able to collect (long story)....and eventually replaced the engine, turbos and a bunch of other stuff. Only managed another 3-4 years with the car before I ultimately sold it (for a song). The rust issues from sitting for 2 years just made it impractical for me to address - more so because my wife was adamantly against putting more $ into the car. Do I wish I still owned the car....yes....and no.

I had so many great runs and adventures with that car. Running down Killboy and flagging him over on Tail of the Dragon and him exclaiming disbelief that I had done so on "his road" was one highlight. Another was driving (very late at night) the very curvy stretch of the DC beltway from 95 to 270 past the Mormon Temple pinned at 140. And of course taking it to 150+ up a mountain with canoe, 3 bikes my two boys and a trunk full of gear. Man....what a beast she was...

Oh and almost forgot - beating my work colleagues from DC to Knoxville TN where we all left a morning meeting at the same time....i drove....they flew...and I was finishing checking into our hotel when they walked in the front door....epic...

FWIW, I have nothing against Audi and do like their cars, I had a S5 Sportback and really liked it for what it was. I’ve always loved the RS7s.

But, following on from the other thread talking about things being too expensive. I don’t get how an RS6 Avant is $172,695. I had no idea they could get to that high of a price.

That surprised me too, so I just fully loaded one in the Audi US configurator and came up with around $163k before transport and taxes.

Base price on an RS6 is now $127k. That’s about what I paid for mine nicely optioned back in 2022. But now the RS6 is called the RS6 Performance and comes with about 30 more hp, so not exactly apples to apples.

That would be strange, I’ve been looking on off and inventory over the last year and I think the most expensive 5V BW I saw was 132k. With the precision pack that’ll obviously get some builds up there.

Still for that 172k RS6 Avant you could have nicely equipped 4 and 5V BWs next to each other in the garage. I don’t think I’d do that as I Ike variety, but just some other perspective.

my point was there's always same rare exclusive edition or option that makes msrps unthinkable, our cadillacs arent immune to it
Definitely agreed. I remember from my GT350 days the ADMs had just calmed down and then Ford released the heritage edition. All it did was mimic the same paint color and stickers from the original 60s GT350 and then ADMs skyrocketed for those. I never understood paying 10-20k or whatever people were paying for an off-shade of white and blue stickers.

But, it’s their money to do with what they please with. I know people have questioned me incinerating money on my car hobby! 😁

welcome to the 4bw imsa edition haha

I'm not poor but I'm certainly not rich either (like some of you here obviously...lol). But I've long been a car enthusiast and driver who enjoys performance and I've always bought and owned cars that to me fit the bill without breaking the bank as it were. I think most would say I've owned some pretty rad vehicles though never any real top end like Porches or Ferrari (or even Corvettes) etc

Its funny though, I often feel I live in two different car worlds. Most of my (mainly middle class) friends and family see me as the car guy who drives nice cars....and they pretty much universally think I'm crazy for spending what I do on my cars (and for owning more than one at a time etc). I've gotten a lot of grief for this over the years (mainly from family members).

At the same time I rub elbows with folks who are an entirely different category of means and car ownership. I've met and witnessed folks who own (often many) extremely nice car at my long time shop - that unfortunately has gone private (but I can still use for small stuff) - catering to one guy who owns maybe 100 very nice cars. There I was known as the poor guy who somehow managed to own very fast capable cars on the cheap (they often marveled at this).

My shop was in a building with several specialty race and restoration car shops that was co-owned by the Crown Prince of Dubai (where his huge eclectic car collection was housed and maintained by my shop....and I could get to sit in the cars!) and a heir to the DuPont fortune - whose 65 Ferraris were in a warehouse out back (including a 24hr Le-mans winner that he occasionally drove on track). Several years ago they held the American Ferrari club annual meet (where i helped to park cars...lol).

Anyway, I'm used to seeing (up close) some very rare, expensive and exotic cars. And while I was often overwhelmed and impressed....for the most part I've always been satisfied with the cars i own and drive. I get desiring these super performance and very nice cars....but as I driver I know what I value and I don't feel the need to pay outrageous sums (even if I could afford them) to get a "nice" car. Anyway thats my shtick....not that I wouldn't want to own and drive some of them...but folks might be surprised (or maybe not) what I personally would or wouldn't pick. And as much as I love the RS6 and have admired it for many years....it wouldn't at all be the car for me. Give me an MR2! lol

If you want a good MT, basically it is Honda/Acura, GM and Porsche (6Mt for Porsche, their 7MT is so so).

I don't think this is quite accurate. In addition to the Miata comment, I think it's better to replace "GM" with "Ford and GM vehicles (any others?) with a Tremec". Maybe "GM" is sufficient if the the only vehicles they sell with a manual have a Tremec (I don't know). But in Ford's case they offer Getrag as well in the Mustang and Bronco. In the Bronco it's nice to have a manual, but it's nothing special and can sound like a rock crusher when cold.

I'm very impressed with the Tremec in the 4 BW - perfect for that car IMO. But I've pretty much liked all the manuals I've ever had in my cars - to varying degrees - all not perfect. These have been exclusively from German or Japanese makes (and nothing recent other then the BW). Of course I upgraded the MT in both my GTI (where valets have commented to me its the best shifter they have ever driven) and my Audi S4 (that still had some issues...but was generally pretty good). Still I would often beat the synchros in both Audi and my old MR2 which was pretty frustrating...

Also true, I really liked the manual in my GT350(s). Especially after I put in a MGW shifter in it. I forgot they put it in the Broncos, that is really cool. I really wish they would for the Raptors.

It’s just my personal opinion, my favorite was the 6MT in my previous Cayman GTS 4.0. I’d honestly say the BW 6MT is right there if not better than it. I read some others wanted a MGW shifter for their BWs. I don’t feel the need to mod it at all, it was one of the big draws to coming back to the BW.

Had the Integra Type S been RWD or AWD with RWD bias, I might’ve bought one of those. I really enjoyed the MT in that and the overall car itself.

I'm too a big fan of that car...but FWD I'm generally not a big fan of. I've probably watched all of Zygrene's track and upgrade videos with his Integra S and enjoy the hell out of his driving with that thing. I also watch most of his vids though think he should give the 4 V BW another run - he wasn't so keen on it in some ways and felt his Integra S was entirely on its level. Maybe....but somehow I don't think its quite there...

Posted this morning. I did not realize that the 4BW and 5BW were the only GM cars (and, I assume, trucks?) left with a manual:

Kudos to all the makes still offering MT. I really like to see the Subaru/Toyota guys (and gals?) taking MT in the BRZ/86....meant to be. And I'm glad VW still offers them in the GTI/Type R....unlike Audi (which is now dead to me)....lol
