Blackwing Order Tracking - 2022 Model Year

Well...shit...I tried deleting a couple posts out of the old order tracking thread and I apparently nuked the whole damn thread! :r :hb

NOTE: the order tracking system is for U.S. based orders only. I can only view orders placed with dealers in the U.S.
NOTE: I will only track ONE order per member. If you have orders in at multiple dealers, pick one...

Tapout actually got in touch with the GM engineers while in development on their hood. They deemed it wasn't going to be any measurable improvement over the stock hood so there was no point in production.

Let's be real, people do it for aesthetics more than anything. The GT350 had aluminum hood and fenders which made going CF even more negligible, but companies still made them, and people still bought them.

GM could've made at least the rear wing on the CF1 kit out of plastic/fiberglass but that's not cool and you can't charge an arm and a leg for those materials can you.

Well thanks all... made me feel better about wussing out and settling. I dont normally cave but hopefully someone comes out w a high end replacement wing and rear valance... and id like the wing more aggressive like the 4bw... time will tell

CF front splitter will inevitably be damaged, and yes it will be very expensive. You'll either pay out of pocket for it, or through insurance premium increases. There was a reason Ford went with plastic front splitters for the GT350s, even the CF wheeled R: It will inevitably be damaged and have to be replaced. I tried to be as careful as I could with the car, but there are just so many places where you cannot avoid hitting the splitter no matter how slow or what angle you took on approach.

It's also not realistic to scope out every place you plan to go to, and remember every place you should avoid. We're humans at the end of the day and can forget. Besides, who wants to live that way. What only scratched/gouged the plastic splitter would crack a CF front splitter. I cringed whenever I heard the splitter scrape. You'll shed a tear when you hear the CF hit the ground.

I think I'll survive with the car sans CF and without the addition of 169lbs of down force at 180mph.

Most carbon fiber panels, like hoods, are actually heavier than the stock pieces. It's carbon fiber weave over some other cheaper material like plastic or fiberglass.

That reminded me, the radiator support on my car was made out of CFRP: Carbon fiber reinforced plastic. Rolled my eyes on that one

Love your sig by the way, it's awesome 😂

I was looking at hoods for my highly modded Golf R, for cooling reasons. It was a sleeper, so I was going to paint the hood white. One company offered the exact same design in "carbon fiber" (heavier than stock) for $1200 or carbon fiber (barely lighter than stock) for $4000, just dumb. Luckily, I ordered the Blackwing before going that terrible direction on the VW.

Oof, talk about offering worse than 0 value. If I was them, I wouldn't be able to look myself in the mirror offering a rip off like that.

I had to drop CF 1& 2 plus seats after waiting 10 months. My car got picked up the next week after dropping CF. Now scheduled to be built week of 3/28.
A while back I saw Burn813’s car, I thought to myself that looks Hot with no Carbon Fiber, it’s a mean looking car with or without CF. And some models, that I won’t mention (don’t want to open Pandora’s box) look much better without the CF. We’ll enjoy our cars without the sacred CF just as much as those with it. And we can always reorder
When CF is available and trade our sweet Hot rides in.

Since my New England Revolution soccer team is currently getting pummeled by Charlotte, I figured I'd turn away from the blood loss on the pitch and post a general FYI about all this CF talk.

The 2009 Corvette ZR1 was the first mass produced GM vehicle to feature exposed carbon fiber parts, particularly the roof. GM Engineers went to extraordinary lengths to develop a special coating on those parts and patented the coating. The cost per one gallon of coating was $30,000 at that time.

Carbon Fiber while light weigh and strong is extremely susceptible to excessive heat and UV radiation. That coating they developed was specifically designed for durability and resistance to UV radiation.

A lot of aftermarket CF companies take a much cheaper route which is why a lot of aftermarket CF parts start to haze and turn milky in appearance after a couple years depending upon exposure to the sun.

While stock GM CF options may be on constraint and unavailable, be careful when shopping for aftermarket CF parts to retrofit. Remember, you get what you pay for.

I'm not saying there aren't some aftermarket CF parts that aren't better than GM, but GM Engineers have a tendency of doing their homework to the Nth degree.

Most aftermarket companies don't have the engineering and financial backing that GM does...

I wonder if a car being garage kept, along with regular application of waxes with UV protection will be enough for aftermarket CF to avoid that fate. The CF wing I purchased from Anderson Composites stated customers should put a layer of clear coat on their products.... Scratched my head on that one. Probably their way of washing their hands of any problems with the CF in the future. That wing was a great value as it was just double the cost of the $350 plastic spoiler but looked much better IMO.

Change in the Rear Tires on CT5-V BW: I see that they changed the size of the rear tires (went from 305/35ZR19 to 305/30ZR19) and removed the wording for "stop-flat". Anyone know the significance of dropping the "stop-flat" from the description ("stop if you get a flat". Doh!)

Week of 2/28/2022

Effective 2/28/2022, the following changes will be made to the Vehicle Order Guide:

• Exterior section-(ROF) Tires, 275/35ZR19 foam front, 305/35ZR19 rear, high-performance, summer-only,

stop-flat, changed "305/35ZR19" to "305/30ZR19" and deleted "stop-flat" from extended description

• Exterior section-(Q63) Wheels, 19" (48.3 cm) aluminum alloy with Polished/Dark Android finish, deleted "stopflat"

from within footnote 1.

• Exterior section-(Q61) Wheels, 19" (48.3 cm) aluminum alloy with Satin Graphite dark finish, deleted "stopflat"

from within footnote 1.

• Exterior section-(RHL) Wheels, 19" (48.3 cm) aluminum alloy with Tech Bronze finish, deleted "stop-flat" from

within footnote 1.

But don't forget, it's not only the quality of the top coating, but it's also the quality of the resin used which is the filler in between the carbon fibers.

I think it's a typo. The tires are all 305/30ZR19...I think.

Also, "stop flat" is the dumbest thing I've ever heard. I must've asked 20 people what they think a "stop flat" tire is, and they basically all said something similar to, "the tire stops you from getting a flat."

Just a change in the type of tires being installed from the factory. probably due to availability.

I do hope these cars get aftermarket support in not only performance mods but visual mods too. Im not averse to putting a CF spoiler on the car as long as the prices arent ridiculous, and from reputable companies.

Not sure how many wins NE Revolution have, but Charlotte FC now has 1...ever, ha
