CT5-V 2023 CT5 Blackwing Engine Failure (Shavings)

CT5-V Model
That's great news, I hope they treat you well (financially).
That will be the interesting part. I’ve heard extremely varying accounts of the values folks have gotten. They wanted to give me another one but I just don’t have the confidence in the model based on the other things I’ve heard. One day after my buyback was approved another guy posted in the BW owners FB group about his motor going at 3400 miles. Something is up with how they built some of these cars.

I saw a couple of different articles about the 6.2L in the Tahoe/Yukon/Escalades having issues. Lots of them are getting new engines. Read about bad castings on 1600 3.5L Ford Expeditions (2024's?). They are going to replace the long blocks. Hyundai replacing thousands of 2024 Palisade engines due to bad valve springs. It's a little scary out there.

Really? I counted 3 actual individual claims of engine failure, and I'm not sure that all 3 were for the LT4.

Maybe I don't know how to use reddit, but that's not enough to concern me. Plus, it's the internet, who knows how much of it is for real?
i didnt read too many comments but the second one alone referenced 6 of them and that was just in one week/local area
"The tow truck driver showed up and said I was the 6th ‘22 Escalade for him to tow that week, all with the same problem. I thought he was kidding/just making conversation but sure enough, when I got to my dealership the following Monday to pick up my loaner .. the 5 others were there 🤦🏻‍♀️ "

I'm sorry to see what you have to go through but I came across this 5 page thread trying to see how many others lost their engine. My 2024 BW only had 2100 miles when the engine failed. No CEL, no nonsense. It always had a rough idle. I got first oil change done just under 400 miles, second one around 1500 miles. Dealer didn't mention anything about metal shavings. One day, just like yours, I started hearing weird sound that made my heart drop. It was the dreaded main bearing kinda sound. I have videos somewhere. Been working with the dealer here in CO and with Cadillac. No luck so far on buyback but the process has been started because of all the reasons in this thread, I just need out. Please keep us posted and I can share video/pics if anyone is interested. Thanks!

Which dealer in Colorado are you working with?

Bought the car from Rickenbaugh Cadillac but I live too far from them so took it to John Elway who told me to take it to Bozarth Chevrolet. I’ve had a great relationship over the years with Bozarth and Autonation GMC by park meadows. Bozarth guys are super helpful and kept me in the loop for everything. Even sent me t

I would be bummed if my engine failed, but it certainly would not trigger the eject button. For me there is nothing else out there that I want and this one is sort of special to me. It's a mechanical thing, it failed, it will be disassembled/reassembled and we'll carry on. I have a garage full of modified race bikes and dirt bikes, so my perspective is a little different. Tear downs are a regular thing, no big deal.

Agree with you on everything you said. I just wish I had the time anymore. With 3 kids in activities that we have to haul around all the time, I just need something that is turn key ready that I can hit track once in a while. I sold all my projects to get the BW for a reason. I'll be back in another one in a couple of years when I'm not spending my life at the hockey rinks and kids activities lol

Glad Bozarth is taking care of you. I have had mine serviced at Elway and have been very pleased. Maybe for the engine replacement they rather the Corvette guys do it? I'm surprised Elway passed it to their neighbor, but if that is where the better mechanics are, it will work out.

Sorry you will be moving on, but you can't be faulted for that. We don't have many 5 Blackwings in Colorado. I have seen probably 3 on the road since they came out. Please keep us posted on the process.

Elway guys were super nice. They told me that they only have one guy who can even look at it and he is out for a week. I should not wait and take it to the Chevy dealer. I've seen everything from LT4 vette to LT4 ZL1 at Bozarth. What was concerning is that they had only seen 1 other LT4 fail in their shop. Moving on is temporary. I'll be back in another eventually but there are other things I need to focus on right now. I did track my auto BW when I had it at HPR. Here is the footage:

Great video. You look great on the corners!

Small Bozarth story. Years ago, I traded in a Dodge Avenger (I think it was a 1996 or 97, manual of course). I had a bitching aftermarket stereo with Soundstream amps, speakers, and dual 10" subs. Trade for a ZR2 Blazer on a Saturday night. Tell them I'll be back Monday morning to take the truck as I need to remove my stereo stuff. "Take your new truck, come to the lot tomorrow and remove your stuff". Show up Sunday with my tools and the extra key I kept. Hit the unlock button and it locks the car. Uh oh. Open the trunk, everything is gone. I mean everything, including the power lines, fuse box, etc. Of course all the speakers, amps, and head unit. Condensing the story, took about 3 months before finally receiving a check for 4k or whatever the receipts totaled to. At one point their GM told me "I don't have to do anything for you, pal". I was 25 years old. Praise God I did not end up in jail after he said that to me.

Holy Moly! I noticed that their name changed from Ed Bozarth to Bozarth number 1 or something in the last few years. I am sure they were doing some shady stuff and then ended up here? I've never bought anything from them and appreciate your sharing your story. Now I know to not leave anything to tomorrow when and if I buy from them. My experience with GMC Autonation has been amazing. Bought wife her last 2 trucks from there and my Hummer EV is from them too. Jason Montgomery goes above and beyond and even their manager Nick just lets me take the cars for a test drive. I'd recommend their sales to anyone but their service department sucks. I can't get my hummer EV in for a TSB because there is only 1 guy working there and their EV tech is never available lol

Oh and thanks on the comments! I was planning to take my manual BW out to HPR the week she gave up on me. Got brake fluid with Castrol SRF, diff fluid and engine oil changed at the same dealer. Thursday was the open lapping day and car failed a day before on Wednesday. Never got to take the manual one out even once 😭
