(CT4 V blackwing) Buyback or keep it?

CT4-V - 9 Miles and in the shop(Multiple failures) - RC found(?)

So looks like the current batch of 23 blackwings have definite QC issues. Picked up my 23 CT4 blackwing manual and driving off from the lot I get a warning for power steering needs service, decide to drive on a little longer. Soon the alert system pops up all kinds of warnings and I lost power...

Car is a electric blue CT4 V blackwing(manual)

Timeline-
Oct 28 1PM - bought car with 9 miles on odo
Oct 28 3 PM - Steering failed along with several codes, drove back to dealer
Nov mid- Steering rack replaced, did not fix issue.
Nov end- GM specialist identified issue as power harness in engine.
Dec 1- Engine harness replaced- no more codes as per dealer.

So the car is ready for pickup but cadillac/GM just called and offered buyback/repurchase.

I have not gotten any info on what incentives I get if I keep the car. I am not sure I get that info before I pick the car back.

I want a CT4 V blackwing- that much is clear- The question is whether to reorder and go through goat rodeo or keep mine with potential incentives(warranty etc)

My main concerns with keeping the fixed car is - carfax will show up as work having being done at 9 miles into ownership. This is assuming the issue is fixed and never surfaces again(Which is not a given) I had planned to keep this car for a while- as my last gas car.

What would you do?

I would ask if I sell it back, can you have my dealers new order for me accepted now for a new 2023? If yes then i would let them have it.

If I dealer is offering a buyback I'd take it! That said, it assumes you come out of it 100% financially, down to the last dollar. If that is what they are offering, then I'd take it clear your finance/take your cash back and go.

If the deal is conditional on you then purchasing again, per the above, I'd want an accepted order/build slot/whatever it's called placed at the same time. If you don't have to immediately repurchase, I'd have a look what is out there in dealer stock and see if that is the better way to go.

The only thing missing with the new car is when it will get fulfilled etc. My car is a bare bones blackwing so there's nothing out there which is close.

I'd keep the current car and ask for a free extended warranty. If the problem arises again, start the lemon buyback clock.

Yeah, that is the downside. If you want to stay in the low $60k range then a low option 2022 like you have now is the really the only way. Many of the cars in dealer stock are autos with $12k-14k in options that you may not want to pay for (sunroof, PDR, etc.) 2023s also have the $1,500 price increase. My dealer has about 10 4BWs but they are all auto start at $73k and up. Then you have to factor more tax and then if you finance the interest rates are higher... You can order one but like you said, it could be a while.

I believe @savethemanual has a 23... so at least no additional price increase (as long as he is able to get another allocation for my23).

I don't understand why Cadillac would offer a buyback on a car that's supposedly been fixed. Did Cadillac offer the buyback or was it the dealer?

Here is what I would do: Take the buyback, but have them order you a replacement Blackwing *first*. When the new Blackwing is built and delivered to the dealer, then they can have your car back in exchange for the new one.

Id just ask for an extended warranty and keep it. There is risk with a replacement car, it may have its own issues, from shipping damage to other defects. At lest you know the car you have is repaired and you have some leverage to get some compensation. Everything will (not can) break eventually.

Bingo! When do they offer this? When they are unsure they are done yet. Seems like a pretty big red flag imho.

So I am not sure if that’s true tbh. This is from Cadillac direct.

It’s been 30 days since the initial service date and I am in California. Maybe that’s a factor?

Cadillac made the offer a day before the car got fixed.

Yeah, sounds like proactive "Lemon Law" stuff.

It should now be just as good as any new car you would get. I say that if you like the car as spec-ed, keep it.

You could maybe try to get some incentives out of them to not Lemon Law it.

FWIW, BMW wrote us a check for $2,000 to not lemon law our i3, which had 2k miles at the time. Seems like a good starting point if you are planning on keeping the car.

I agree here. I feel like there’s something more to this given the fact Cadillac is offering a buyback this early. Do they suspect other known issues that have not yet surfaced with your car? Perhaps your car was part of a bad build batch? Doesn’t feel right. Be cautious my friend.

This is precisely what I'm getting at! That sucks that he waited all that time and may end up having to start all over again. Since savethemanual pointed out that we have similar build dates, I am now very nervous about mine. I completely understand the unpredictability of the goat rodeo but intuition is telling me there is an issue. If that's the case I wish they would be more transparent.
