Corsa Xtreme Exhaust issue

So I went to HarborFreight and purchased a Zurich ZR15s OBD2 scanner. I got a code p3180. I need to better understand this OBD2 scanner to see how to do valve relearning, if it can even do that.

I don't know if that scanner is bidirectional, if not, return it and buy one which is, like the one I linked above. Then relearn those valves and call it a day.

Okay, I am done screwing around. Just ordered the Launch scanner you recommended. Gonna return that HF POS.

Thank goodness for you guys for being so knowledgeable about this stuff! I really do appreciate it.

Have a good weekend and I’ll keep you posted when the scanner arrives.

Just want to thank you all for your help - I was able to get the exhaust valves relearned and it sounds fantastic. With the cold weather in New England, the cold starts sounds very nasty! 🤯🤩 Happy New Year to you all

btw im curious after the exhaust install is the sound difference noticeable from the inside of cabin from drivers pov? ive watched many youtube videos from back of the car and know the difference it makes but with all the sound deadening everyone complains about insulating the cabin from the engine/exhaust notes, is it improved with aftermarket exhaust?

Yes, 100%. It’s an active warzone behind you when downshifting and burble takes over.

We installed the Corsa exhaust on our Blackwing back in December. Within a day or two the check engine light came on. We took it back to the shop which was unable to permanently clear the codes. Next, we went to a Cadillac dealership. They thought they found the fix by replacing a wiring harness that they thought was damages, but codes popped up again after a couple days. Back to original shop, nothing. Back to the dealership, they basically said that it was aftermarket so they recommended removing the Corsa exhaust and reinstalling the factory exhaust. Back to the original shop, still nothing. We then took our Blackwing to another shop that provides race support and high end modifications on pretty much everything. They were unable to permanently clear the codes.

Corsa has been very difficult work with. We were intitally contacted after leaving multiple messages and contacting them through the website. The representative contacted both the dealership and the original shop and provided contact information. However, all three shops have tried to get in contact with Corsa with the number provided with no luck and no returned call. I have tried easily ten times and have left at least three messages.

Exhaust sounds amazing and the round tips really dress up the back. We want to keep the exhaust. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. We are in the Austin area.

What codes? What % are you getting on the valve actuations? Also, did you happen to remove the valve actuators and make sure the springs were clocked correctly?

Probably needs a simple valve relearn procedure, assuming they clocked the actuators correctly.

P0300, P3173-00, P317F-00

Not sure about the %. How would I find this? The second shop said that everything was installed correctly. I am sure both shops would try again if I had some type of solution. I do think the original shop removed the actuators during the install. How would they know if the springs were clocked correctly?

Thank you for the help.

I somehow missed this thread when it started.

Sounds exactly like my problem as well.

So exactly what are the steps for the valve re-learn ?

Go to a dealer or someone with a capable tool.

I have been to a Cadillac dealership and two shops that claim to have the correct tools. The speed shop claims their scanner was $10k and can handle everything. They were "confident" they could fix it. Has to be more than just a relearn.

There a guy on YouTube who details how to do the valve install. Have your shop compare, then once installed correctly, do a relearn on the valves.

Ok, you got a few things going on here.

P0300 - is a multi-cylinder misfire detection. There's 10+ pages of diagnostic scenarios to work this out. Was this code present when you brought to the dealer? Did they attribute this to the exhaust? This is the first of 10+ pages. Nothing I can do with this one nor do I think this is related to the exhaust unless something up stream was modified or a rare case of something plugged downstream in one of the pipes (doubtful but never know)

P3173 / P317F - are valve position codes, which more then likely can be resolved by performing a relearn. This is assuming the springs were clocked correctly in the actuators. Corsa does give a picture diagram to help orientate these when reinstalling. But what you can do, before removing the actuators, is remove the inside tips, and then shine a flash light down the inside pipe. Have someone flip your drive mode (you can do this with the car off, just hold the start button for a few seconds and will put you into a service mode) between Tour and V mode and see if the valve is closing with Tour and open in V mode. If they are not opening and closing correctly it may indicate the spring is not clocked correctly. Its a little tricky to set the spring in the cutout and then attach the actuator without it slipping out of the grooves. This could continue to cause a code even if the relearn has be executed as the computer is not getting the correct resistance voltage return and thus sees an error. If you do have a bi-directional OBD scanner, see the beginning of this thread, I mentioned it several times. You should be able to see the valve open/close values in %, possibly voltage, and should be able to perform the relearn process. Takes seconds to perform. Additionally, while under there, unplug the valve actuator extension cables and insure none of the pins are bent or misaligned, check the cable overall.

Looked on YouTube. There are sevaral videos regarding exhaust installation with valves. Is there something about the video, like type of car, that will help me narrow my search? Thank you.
