Used Value Trend

"Alternative" doesn't seem like quite the right word to me. "Complement" seems so much better. Enjoy each type of vehicle for what it is.

I love manual transmission vehicles and love different types of vehicles. Hence the 5BW, GR Corolla, GR 86 (my daughter's car), Bronco, various motorcycles. All different flavors, all with manual transmissions. All very good at what they do, all *very* enjoyable.

If my 5BW got taken away (stolen, wrecked, whatever), and there wasn't a replacement, I wouldn't feel the need to "replace" it necessarily. It's been great, I hope it continues to be great, but I don't need a car exactly like it forever. For example, I had a BMW for a while. I enjoyed it, but have no pressing desire to duplicate or repeat it (BMW has helped with this process, but still). I'd probably just go in a different direction for a while. I haven't bought a new motorcycle in quite some time, so that's the obvious next direction.
thanks for trying to make me feel better but i feel like a loser every time i get in the wrx haha

I actually loved my Miata RF. It was great. Not practical though.
Agreed. The Miata is an excellent drivers car and is widely recognized as such. The first difficult decision I have to make each day is which car I want to drive to work, the Miata or the Blackwing. Both cars are excellent but offer different experiences. Depending on each individual’s situation, preferences and budget, I could definitely see choosing a Miata if you only need/want one car and all you care about is driving enjoyment and don’t need all the extra space.

I have 3 cars calling out to me after the blackwing but they're all just out my price range right now.

  1. Z06. If this reaches < 100k for low mileage examples its going to be a tough choice.
  2. CT5 V blackwing(manual or auto) <80k takes it.
  3. LC 500- I have an inexplicable love for this car. But its clearly lower in the list than others.

Absolutely nothing else interests me out there. I was thinking of porsches but the ones I want (GT cars are well over 150k) and porsche will not put a NA engine in the 911s I can semi afford.

The Integra is just a tarted-up Civic, which is a great little car. The Acura does get good reviews and I believe is available with a proper manual transmission. It's on my list of possibilities, should I ever decide to part with the BW. I'll have to get over my dislike of FWD though...
Not just any old Civic, but a Civic Type R! The Type S, much like the Type R, is only available with a manual transmission, and one of the best in the biz. Sure it's FWD, but everything else makes up for it.

I had them both for a couple months and yeah, definitely always a tough call which to drive. I do regret selling the Miata… such is life I suppose.

Yeah, after I wrote that, I was curious and looked on the ol' Internet to see what was up. My local dealer has 3 (!!!) in stock, which surprised me, and Car & Driver just loves it. If I didn't have the BW, it would be a contender, for sure.

I had a '20 Civic Type R before the 5BW (and after an '11 M3 and '01 M5, all manual). If something happened to my BW I'd get another one without a doubt, but if I had to cut my budget in half I wouldn't be upset at all with a CTR or Integra Type S. They have an eagerness and tenacity that is really engaging, and feel light on their feet yet planted at the same time.

The CTR was sort of a stopgap car between selling my M3 during COVID (was just sitting) and waiting for the BW. I had meant to spend less and get a last-gen GTI, but after test driving one with a CTR on the same day there was no way I wasn't ponying up for the CTR.

Hey now, I'm daily driving my old bugeye while I'm between daily drivers. It's no blackwing, but I love that old piece of junk. Left my SS in the dust without breaking a sweat.

I am thinking about selling - 2022 5, manual, $92k msrp, 11,500 miles. Lincoln dealer first offer was $76k. Carmax online was $79k. The dealer shared this list

Did you ever get your 6th gear NVH issue worked out? Also, does it have sunroofs? If so, I know a guy looking for a manual 5BW in that price range.

Yeah I think if I HAD to get rid of the BW I might just stick to one car for awhile. I'd love to get another E92 M3 but the prices are kinda crazy. My E92 M3 was by far my most favorite car up until the BW.

Most BMW owners upgrade to Porsche, but having never driven one I don't know how it would compare as a replacement.

good memory! we never investigated with the dealer. my continued weekend experience still says it's not 6th gear, it's exhaust/tire droning above 80. Yes, has a sunroof. Window sticker attached and the car is in the registry. I want $81k from the dealer, which essentially returns our down money and covers 100% of the state tax via the trade in.

Very fair. I imagine you'd want a bit more third party to cover taxes in that case?

yeah $81+6 or 7 for the tax gap. Plus the convenience factor of just trading it in.

I need some thoughts from you guys please....as noted in an earlier post, I want to sell my 2022 CT5 BW. Carvana just offered my 78400. I was trying to work out something on a trade (moving to the Texas hill country and looking at Broncos), but the best offer has been 71k, and I don't think that is a good number. I know the tax advantage on a trade, but I also am considering other options and might not buy another vehicle just yet.

Currently at 23400 miles, 6 speed, no sunroof. shadow gray, no carbon pkgs. Excellent condition.

Anybody have any experience with Carvana and do you think that is a good offer?

Thanks in advance.

What was your MSRP? Maybe 90 or less? think the Carvana offer is very fair. I would take that and not look back.
