Used Value Trend

So... yesterday driving into work, some bozo nearly ran into me and it got me thinking, what would I do if my precious baby was in an accident? It's still difficult to find these things new, but what about when they stop making them? So for S&G I looked for used ones on CarGurus. There are several out there, miles range from 1200 and up, it has to have 3 pedals for me so my filters took out all of the automatics.

I found an orange one in Texas with about 1200 miles with ceramic brakes and a few other options for $89K, which is probably not a bad retail price for a Caddy dealer. If I had to replace my car today, that would be a top contender.

Unfortunately for the previous owner of that thing, he paid at least the MSRP of 105 for it and got 80 on trade.

Curious to know if the used market is drying up or if everyone is just going private sale. CarGurus has 21 manual 5BWs listed nationwide and a mere 14 manual 4BWs. Less than there used to be for sure.

I think at least this year there have been less available in the used market. I know all of 2023 when I was keeping my eye on but not actively hunting one there were around 40+ at any given time on Autotrader. (manual CT5)

Most of this year it seems to have shrunk to a consistent 30.

Yes, there are less. Normal for this time of year after the Covid outlier. You'll start seeing more for sale in the Fall. Expect lower prices as interest rates plateau. There will be some small spikes for 4th of July and Labor Day.

I think if 2025 model is delayed, inventory both used and new will shrink more. Even finding nicely optioned new inventory is not as easy anymore.

yea same is true for ct4 bw's too. significantly less inventory both new and used than I used to see just few months ago vs now and when does pop up, its sold within a day

yeah back in nov/dec when I was looking there was consistently around 37/38 (manual with less than 5k miles) nationwide.

Just did a search and there are only 11 nationwide with the search criteria above. The prices don't seem to have dropped from what I'm seeing and remembering when I was looking.

Covid shortages along with Cadillac marketing and Influencers (last ICE vehicles... last manual... get 'em while you can...etc...) made for an interesting few years. Be patient. People will start wanting to sell when the incentives on new cars ratchet up.

Except.....there is nothing new I'd want.
Agreed. Over the past decade or so I would always look at and fantasize about new cars coming to market, whether it be watching YouTube reviews or looking at Car and Driver. Now everything is a boring EV or SUV. All of the fun exciting vehicles have really died off with the exception of a few higher end sports cars/exotics. I will likely keep the BW until the wheels fall off for this reason.

Exactly!!! My BW has had it's unfortunate share of issues and I've considered that maybe I should be driving something else... and then... what is there? M2/M3, which I don't find the current iterations of super enticing. Aside from that there's nothing, given I'm stubborn on driving a stickshift until I no longer have that option.

dont do what i did and try to convince yourself a cheaper japanese alternative that still offer a manual (wrx/GR/integra) will be good enough... you'll find yourself right back to the classifieds like i am

I will say that my Acura Integra Type S is even more enjoyable to drive than my CT5-V was, and the jury's still out if the Acura is more enjoyable to drive than my 911 Carrera S (with a manual, of course) is. I've only got about 150 miles on the 911, but there's just something about the Type S.

The Integra is just a tarted-up Civic, which is a great little car. The Acura does get good reviews and I believe is available with a proper manual transmission. It's on my list of possibilities, should I ever decide to part with the BW. I'll have to get over my dislike of FWD though...

I actually loved my Miata RF. It was great. Not practical though.

"Alternative" doesn't seem like quite the right word to me. "Complement" seems so much better. Enjoy each type of vehicle for what it is.

I love manual transmission vehicles and love different types of vehicles. Hence the 5BW, GR Corolla, GR 86 (my daughter's car), Bronco, various motorcycles. All different flavors, all with manual transmissions. All very good at what they do, all *very* enjoyable.

If my 5BW got taken away (stolen, wrecked, whatever), and there wasn't a replacement, I wouldn't feel the need to "replace" it necessarily. It's been great, I hope it continues to be great, but I don't need a car exactly like it forever. For example, I had a BMW for a while. I enjoyed it, but have no pressing desire to duplicate or repeat it (BMW has helped with this process, but still). I'd probably just go in a different direction for a while. I haven't bought a new motorcycle in quite some time, so that's the obvious next direction.
