Spring Mountain Impressions

It really can go either way. I have heard the 4BW handles the twisties better while the 5 is surely the beast on the straights. Either way, first timers will surly appreciate what both cars can do vs. every day driving.
I actually prefer twisty, technical driving to straight away speed, and fell in love tackling those roads with my Subaru WRX STIs. But yeah, definitely looking forward to the BWs full potential on a track vice the street.

SM was my first time on a road track ever. The things the 4BW was capable of even with my limited ability was amazing to me, and certainly nothing like I would have thought the car could safely do if I never had that instructor assisted track experience.

Haha nah I can't afford a 5BW! Besides I like the lighter and better handling car for the twisties and spirited driving.
With these vehicles, handling is up to the Nut Behind the Wheel. At SM, while I was definitely not the fastest driver there, not one of the 4BW's could keep up with the drivers in the fastest grp -- who were all in a 5BW. (Not even the fastest in an auto 4BW could best my time in the 5BW 6MT.) If you know how to drive, you can learn to get the most out of any vehicle. On paper, the 5BW is a more capable vehicle than the 4BW. One might prefer one over the other but hands down, a capable driver will get around most any road course or twisty road faster in the 5 over the 4.

Cool video from You Tube of the 0-150-0 speed/brake test. The Blackwing held its own very well compared to the more expensive rides. 3 tenths of a second slower than a $300,000 Porsche......BW money well spent !

As a 4V BW owner, this is absolutely true. lol.

Just got back from spring mountain last night. It was sooooooo much fun. If anyone is on the fence about making the trip out there do it. Even if you think you ll be bad/scared on track. The instructors are so awesome, the facilities are so awesome.

The 2 class slowly ramps up you up so you’re continually improving your skills. My best lap of the 2 days was my very last hot lap on the track. My best auto cross lap was the last lap as well.

You learn so much about the capabilities of your car in these 2 days. I feel like I’ve barely scratched the potential of my car on street(I do some frenetic canyon carving). I plan to start auto crossing soon and maybe track some day.

Oh also hanging out with blackwing owners is awesome.

The souvenirs still suck. No blackwing stuff apart from one jacket with a blackwing logo on the back.

It was nice meeting you Sir! I agree with your impression! It was a great experience all around!

Heads up on Jan/Feb Spring Mountain attendees. Double check your confirmation packet. Mine had the wrong class date and car.

When I bought my 4BW, the salesman never even mentioned anything about Spring Mountain. I’m surprised because that would’ve made his sale much easier lol. I’ll make sure to give him a hard time for not telling me haha.

This looks really awesome, going to sign-up for a future session. I’ve never driven on track or anything but I’ve been driving my BW a lot and absolutely love it. Would love to have a safe place to push its limits and learn how to control the car properly, good stuff.

The BEST part , is that you are beating the snot out of THEIR cars !
Literally. Was going down a straight away around 105 in third and went to shift to fourth but accidentally pulled into 2nd! Car dash Christmas light on me but I put it back to 3rd and car just ran like nothing happened! Would be a heart attack if it was my car but these cars are built to handle a lot.

oof, I helped push an E46 M3 through the pits at last track day. Guy had never heard the term Money Shift...

I was using the paddle shifters on the BW5 automatic that I used at SM. At some point I screwed up and the RMP's went into the red for a second. I could swear I saw on the dashboard where the car called me a "dumb-ass" ! At least nothing broke and the car computers know how to save itself from stupidity.

That car’s dead.

Usually the A10 will tell you "shift denied" if you are trying to do something that is contrary to its self-protection parameters.
