Soler Throttle Controller or Pedal Commander

For those of you that have Soler Throttle Controller or Pedal Commander, I'm considering installing primarily for Anti-Theft Deterrent in my 5BW.
While the improved pedal response will also be a plus, have a couple questions on use.
I want the one that is the easiest and quickest to Turn-On and Turn-Off the Pedal Lock with my iPhone.

Is one of them Easier to control via iPhone?
Does the car have to be running, or can the car be off to change the Lock setting?
The Pedal Commander has a small subscription fee for the Lock feature - is wi-fi or cellular required to Turn On and Turn Off the Lock with it? (I sometimes park in parking garages without cellular coverage).
Does the Pedal Commander have the option to remove the Control Screen from the vehicle after installation and control only via iPhone?

Honestly i think your best bet is the solar. No monthly fee, easy to connect and after every time I drive it, I pick up my phone and slide the lock throttle tab before turning car off. Zero complaints and has worked very well so far. Feel free to send PM to chat further if interested.

Great point but I’d rather it be stuck with me than some thief joyriding my car after stealing it.

You're asking the right questions. If you really want a true second layer of protection that won't leave you stuck in the middle of nowhere, you may consider a company that makes anti-theft systems: Igla Kvant - IGLA US

This Kvant sounds like a nice alternative to the other IGLA product that requires wiring etc. Do you know anyone that has used it?

OP, sorry you had to deal with the bs and glad a dealer helped, particularly with this crappy weather.

I live West of what rdollie calls “muggy crime infested swamp” and as a real Texan, have no problem doing so. It’s not for everyone. I’ve lived in Dallas and Austin and regularly visit family in San Antonio. Yes, each have their pluses and minuses, but all just like any City in the beautiful USA have crime and theft areas. As previously mentioned, it can happen anywhere!

It seems @KatyTxCT5V got one of their systems, maybe the ODB blocker. I think you need an installer to do the work on most of the ILGA products, but when you're protecting >$100k rolling down the road it makes sense to do it right. I'm strongly considering when the goats are done playing with my car and it finally arrives.

I have the IGLA and now added the Soler as another layer. I bought the Soler for the performance portion & it works great. Still playing with the adjustments.

I have experimented with the pedal lock, it works, but to be honest, I tend to forget on occasion to turn it on because it requires an extra step. But I’m assured with the IGLA 100% of the time.

I’ve also added an ODB aluminum cover/blocker as another layer.

I have a couple other things added as well.

I worked too damn hard for this car and especially after adding all the OEM carbon, so I’ll make it harder to steal. I don’t mind in investing in keeping it protected.

So I am new to newer GM products (only new GM I have is my '15 Z28), and I have heard of a few folks with stories to tell about stolen recent GM products (one guy in my neighborhood had a '16ish (I think) ATS-V auto stolen out of his driveway, and a friend had 1 successful and 1 thwarted 6th gen Camaro SS 1LE 6MT theft).

As far as 5VBWs go, does anyone have any stats on theft/attempts/recoveries? Obviously they are still fairly new to the markets so that will limit available data.

Are they (manual or not) hot theft targets?

I presume they would be as vulnerable as similar platformed other products, but perhaps slightly "updated" and "fortified" by GM's learnings/experience with theft of models released prior to the 5VBW's release.

Or are people just thinking ahead and being proactive because of the geographic locations they reside in, or the general world we live in these days?

Once delivered, my car will likely live boxed in, inside my garage, but if there's enough reason to worry about it outside in the real world, I might have to consider some of the aftermarket options.

In about 60 seconds after connecting to your ODB port all of your fobs are forgotten and only their fob is associated with the car and they drive off. As soon as they get someplace secluded the OnStar is unplugged and within a week or so your car is in another country.

That’s how rich people in other countries beat the goat rodeo. The thieves are well aware of OnStar systems and therefore a good idea to install an aftermarket GPS tracker as well. Once it goes to Mexico the chances of recovery are zero.

They don’t need to start the car. They will pull it up on a flatbed with the transmission in Park.

I have the Soler in my 5BW & C8 Stingray. It connects to the phone via BT so you do not need wi-fi. Need to start the car to "wake up" the BT in the vehicle to connect to the app/phone. However, when you park, you can turn off the vehicle & the BT will stay connected for a couple of minutes to give you time to lock the pedal.

If the app stops working, the only method I know of is to remove the device. Depending on level of mechanical know-how, it's a 20-30 minute procedure including disconnecting the battery.

I keep the removable dongle hidden in the car in the event my phone dies or is lost/stolen. This way, I can get a burner phone, DL the app & reconnect to the Soler. (You need the dongle to register a phone to dis/able the pedal lock.) The pedal lock ONLY works thru the app & there's no way to do it with the dongle. It's also a good idea to have the app on the phone of someone trusted as a back-up. (My wife has it on her phone.) But to be honest, if it's going to take longer than 30-minutes to get a new phone, etc, I'll just temporarily remove the device.

There's a certain level of paranoia/comfort here. Some would say I'm paranoid to go to all these steps to make sure I have a failsafe. OTOH, I like to be prepared.

Here's another Q: What if the IGLA or any other aftermarket anti-theft device fails, what then? As you, the owner, have a way to defeat it so you can still drive away?

I have it on two GM vehicles and no issues at all. The customer does not get to see it being installed, only the installer knows where and how it’s installed. I searched and couldn’t find where they installed it.

I believe too many over think the “what if” this or that happens. Anything can fail and I’ll figure it out what to do if that ever happens. I installed it and happy. I did extensive research and didn’t find any issues. I spent the money and have no regrets.

I also have an A10 5BW and everyone wants the manual. So it’s a deterrent itself .

Since nobody bought or gave me the car for free, I’ll do what I can to protect what I worked hard to pay for. With insurance costs continuing to increase, I don’t give them another reason to charge me more. I also don’t rely on it as my fall back, as most insurance only give actual cash value and with all the OEM carbon I added, I won’t get that back.
Sure, you can pay more to some companies to cover higher values, but add it up and you could pay for more protection with the same or less cost. I now don’t worry at all after parking it like I did before adding protection.
