Welcome to the Cadillac V-Series Forums!

Should I buy a new one?

Keep what you have. Put the money you might have spent towards a new paint job and a GM extended warranty.

Too much of these cars just can't be fixed by home mechanics. You can't even bleed the brakes without $5000 in computer software and specialist tools. I know I needed a new bidirectional OBD tool just to change the battery in my 07 BMW. I shudder to think what some other real repairs would take to fix. Sadly, these cars really aren't very DIY friendly. Probably by design since that's the real profit center for dealerships.

Hah, I hear you! I bought a Carly just to do the battery registration for our BMWs. But, I do find the Blackwing easier. I've changed brake fluid, changed rotors and pad, changed rear diff fluid, etc with the most basic tools.

Back in July, I checked on extended warranty for my DD 22’ GMC AT4 limited w/6.2 engine. It’s 3 yrs old and I really like my truck and keeping it for a long time, but the reputation of 6.2’s does concern even though my truck has been perfect. I paid $2,623 with “lifted” option for 84/84 (month/mile) total warranty with zero deductible. I felt it was a cheap investment for a lifted truck covered by GM factory warranty.

I check on the 22’ 5BW at the same time. I haven’t bought it yet, here’s what I was quoted for reference.
You can play with the months/miles that fits what you want. My 5BW being a garage queen, I need more months than miles, so I’m considering 84/56. For $1,736 with zero deductible, cheap insurance IMO. I spent a hell of a lot more on carbon fiber, lol.

Platinum084/56
$1,736
Platinum10084/56
$1,566
Platinum25084/56
$1,429

Highest months/miles I was quoted.
Platinum096/100
$3,839
Platinum10096/100
$3,353
Platinum25096/100
$2,964

For ref- Cadillac factory B to B warranty is 4yr/50k miles. Powertrain warranty is 6yr/70k miles.

Cheaper than taking a loss on a young and well taken care of car!

Yeah, I've seen the threads. The internet just brings out all the negativity that exists.

Case in point, I'm retired US Navy, a designated proven weapons specialist. I once called S&Wesson to compliment them on a gun I recently bought. The customer service woman said "You mean you just called to say thanks?" I said yes. She said that'd never happened to her in years.

Hacked off people dominate forums, always have, always will. Don
Thanks for the lesson on forum optics, but I think it's well known that they disproportionally sample users with issues. Naturally this skews the perception of whatever brand is being discussed. The point is, the thread aggregating LT4 failures is just what has been posted here. Understanding how few 5BW's exists, its an interesting data point, to me at least. I'm still going to let mine eat and will not be purchasing an extended warranty. Cheers, and thanks for your service. Jon

I got a call from The King last night, offering to move me up on the list since he had some unexpected allotments come up. We had planned for December or so for my order, so he was checking in. I couldn't give him a good answer. Here's my situation, I'd like some opinions from you guys and gals, please.

- Currently I own a 2023 6-Spd in black that I bought new a year ago. Black is killer for this car.
- 6500 miles, no issues.
- I will likely retire within 8 months, although I may get another job just to keep me off the streets.

I would prefer the (Rapid Red?) burgundy color and those fancy gold-ish wheels, but there are no options that I miss, I even like the base seats! No need for ceramic brakes, as I do not track the car.

A new car would give me more factory warranty. I do not do extended warranties.

I do not care for the new infotainment Imax-sized display/instrument panel.

So, these are not strong arguments for getting a new one. Plus there is the financial hit that I'll take selling an almost two year old car, and the crap shoot that is GM quality.

Thoughts, pro & con? Am I missing anything? And no, the new "styling" does nothing for me.

Thanks.
I'm happy to take this slot off your hands if you don't need it. 🤣

Agreed, and I also indicated there could be more failures not posted on the forum. There is just no way of knowing, and the other contributing factors I listed.

To the point of the thread here, trading for a new 2025 does not change the LT4 situation. I think GM gives us a very strong factory powertrain warranty at 6/70k. Like BimmerFan, I have never purchased extended warranty coverage before, but as I plan to keep my 5 forever, I'll at least look into it.

So, stupid me, I didn't even realize that we had a 6/70 powertrain warranty. That is somewhat reassuring.

As for the "massive failure rate" of the BW LT4, isn't that same engine also in the C7 Corvette Z06, sans the fancy valvetrain bits? I don't hang out in the C7 forum and so I don't know but I haven't heard of/read of a bunch of problems with that, unlike the LS7 in the C6 Z06 where the valves would do something bad.

Thanks all for the thoughtful contributions, I think I will just stick with my current car. For now I'm going to keep my spot on the list just in case something happens, but I'll likely end up giving my spot to @Goldfish.

Pretty sure when the king says they suddenly came up with additional allotments, that’s codeword for cancellations from perspective buyers

Seems like a no-brainer based on your post. Now you guys have me rethinking if I should just find a good '24 brand new and skip that new dash/design. I wish there was more video and multimedia about the new one so I could make a better decision...
The dealer that gave me 8k off has 1 last loaded 6MT Black Diamond Tricoat. Same car as mine but it adds carbon brakes. 132 MSRP +/. Maybe I can get you 9k. Nick, what's it gonna take for me to get you in this car today? 🤣

I had the same intuition and called a few dealers with stock yesterday. The few I talked are unrealistic, one still wanted +15k over.

The high priced units are the ones remaining.

This is my experience as well. I'd probably take a 24 at a discount, but everyone in a few hundred mile radius is standing on MSRP and pretending I'm super super lucky they aren't asking for a markup.

actually i change my suggestion. you should totally dump that ticking time bomb to me at a discount and buy a new one :)

Is that at pepe Cadillac? I was looking at that one last night and called them and they were going to get back to me to see what kind of discounts they could give me. After looking at photos and videos, I don't know that I am the kind of person that can pull off a black diamond tricoat Cadillac, haha. I've never seen one in person and I'm not sure if it's just a little too much bling for a early '40s white guy that lives in Northern New York 😆

40's white guy who lives in northern NY, rocking a blinged out Cadillac. If you're Italian, that trail was blazed well in advance. Not sure anyone would bat an eye. 😉

Lol, My father was born in Quebec and my mother has some Irish heritage. I do have a dark head of hair though 😁

15k over on leftover 24s? That is absurd. Never gonna happen.
Sewell has 7 new CT5V-BW in stock right now, various levels of options, with a $1500 markup ("protection package" nonsense) that they'd probably waive if you pushed a little bit.

Love the one you're with...besides $$$ saved buys a lot of booze...
