Potential new CT4-V Blackwing owner, things to note on delivery?

Did anyone get PPF on their car before picking it up? I'm in the debate now. I have a local quote, but I need to drive the car back from Dallas to Austin. My current car shows a lot of chips on the front bumper, most of which are from I35 (between Dallas and Austin). The dealer has a local shop that can do Xpel (they are getting a quote now).

Chances are good you'll get a better job done at an actual detail shop. The dealer is likely not going to do a paint correction to the same quality as a reputable shop. Like a paint job, the prep is where all the work is.

There are a number of members here familiar with that area. I am not. My opinion comes from general experiences at the local dealer. I don't consider them for a detailer. My local dealer has it in their notes to refuse cleaning services if it is ever in their shop. Yours sounds like an actual detail shop and not the dealer themselves. That alone makes me feel a little better. If you have time prior you should check out their shop and some of the vehicles they are currently working on as well as ones they've previously done. Most of the time, not always, the other cars in the shop is a decent indicator of their capability.

I wonder how many owners went a full 1500 miles without ever exceeding 4000 RPM. I was very good for 500 miles with my 2022, but that tach changing does make it harder. I posted a video once before, honest to God truth... within seconds of hitting 500 miles and my tach opening up to 6500, Welcome to the Jungle began to play on the radio. It was amazing. I wonder what will play when the current car gets there?
Me! Just above 1K right now.

I did PPF/ceramic a week after I picked it up. I drove about 500 miles back home. First time and I'm glad I did. Got a good deal because I took up a last minute cancellation slot. The ceramic code has a lifetime warranty as long as I bring it in yearly for a checkup. I took it in for a 2 week checkin and they correct a small issue. I washed it yesterday w/ Griot's rinseless wash & glass cleaner and she's spotless. Very happy w/ the results.

I was skeptical but the ceramic coat actually fixed a 'dent' I had noticed on the rear door. I was the only one at the dealer that could notice it. I kinda complained and they offered to cover the repair but warned me that it will not look the same. I'm well aware of that, considering the grey (which is why I tend to avoid that color). After the ceramic coat, it was almost gone.

What's the consensus on the dealer washing the car? They told me they have a laser touchless and use new towels on vehicles.

When I got my 350Z, I told them to leave the plastic wrap on and not wash it.

You must be joking? The dealer said what?

LOL, yeah, sure they do.

I'm as OCD as the next guy, if not more so. And when I take my car in for service, if the dealer offers a complimentary wash, I tell them not to. But the dealer is going to wash the car, unless you (like @centex) tell them to leave on the plastic, because it's going to be dirty.

So...

Years ago I was at the Porsche dealer, doing who knows what (probably buying my Panamera) and it was a Friday so their lot wash was going on in preparation for Saturday, their big (I presume) sale day. It wasn't their factory trained Porsche specialist detail guy doing it, it was an outside company of 3 people who went through the entire lot with a hose and a brush, and washed down all of the cars out there. This was pre-pandemic, so it was chock-full of brand new 911s, Caymans, Boxsters, those SUV things, most of these cars $100K+ and they were using dirty tap water and filthy brushes that just got finished washing 47 cars at the Toyota dealer. So I kind of chuckle when I hear/read things like that quoted above.

Someone resurrected this older thread, so I have to ask the OP @oldskoolboarder, how are you doing, enjoying the car?

Some have commented on paint issues. It will be difficult to examine the paint if it's still dirty. I have no way to verify their cleaning process.

Still loving the car. Haven't done much to the car outside of the Tuxmats, PPF and ceramic. I've washed it a few times and w/ the ceramic, it's pretty easy w/ Griot's ceramic wash. Still have to make my appointment for V academy. I'm also glad I pulled the trigger when I did. I haven't seen anything close to the price I've paid. No real regrets on the package I got either. It's been a challenge to deal w/ a lower front end. I'm coming off my lifted 2007 Toyota FJ where I don't attention AT ALL. But then I also don't have to pay attention to garage heights either.

Just got home from picking up the car (and driving back from Arlington). During my inspection, I found the shipping blocks in place. I asked to not wash the car and they honored it (it was dirty). That being said the paint is a beautiful mess. If you look at the car as you walk up, it looks great. If you look at the paint at angle in sun, there are fine lines/swirls all over it. My guess is that it got washed in Michigan before the wrap was put on it. They offered to buff it, but said I would probably have to come back. I fly up to Dallas, so that wasn't really an option. At this point, I will probably have to fix it myself. Mechanically, the car seems excellent.

When I actually picked mine up, they had washed it and it was sitting in the handover room by itself. Looked great. And then I noticed what looked like a vertical dent on the rear passenger door. My salesguy couldn't see it and they had to bring it out to the service bay. It took a few staff to actually see it. The service manager showed me a new Escalade (almost double my price) and said they have quite a few that have worse alignment and paint. They were open to paying for a repaint but w/ argent, we all knew that the paint would NEVER match. I had them mark it on the receipt docs just in case I changed my mind. After I took it in for PPF and ceramic coat, guess what? That dent actually disappeared. I have absolutely no idea what they did for paint correction but it worked. YMMV.
