Picking up a new to me CT4 BW 10spd auto with the carbon 2 pkg and all the options on Saturday. 7k miles and i have a 84mon extended warranty. I am highly interested in the White belt kit from TapOut. How many of you on this forum have been using the JB4 setup without issue? I am not looking for a full blown tune, downpipe, or the intake because as i do not want the troubles with the warranty and/or CELs. I have had several modified cars, some over 1000hp and i am highly skeptical so that's why i ask.
CELs?

Looking for some data on CEL issues and performance, hopefully positive. ~500WHP seems like a huge jump for $1000. My 7.0L Z06 i had in 2009 didnt even make those numbers. My C6Z07 auto car is only 75hp more at the wheels with the LT4.

Lets here your experiences my friends.
Thanks

Unfortunate regarding the license plate holder already screwed into the front bumper.

No kidding. It’s required by my state but I don’t run a front plate on any of my cars. I guess I will be plugging the holes with small plugs. Not my favorite look but better than this.

There's been mention in other threads of front plate mount alternatives that connect under the splitter or through the grill that don't drill holes through the bumper. Too late to prevent damage that's already done in your case, but maybe a better look.

Fortunately it's white. I've had good luck at the local hardware finding plugs to fill those holes. All my cars are either black, white, or black and white.

Any feedback on the JB4. TapOut looks like they know what they are doing.
As long as you use the custom tune TapOut sets up for you, you should be OK. They tame it a bit from the default maps that it comes with. Back in the day, JB4 had a reputation of juicing their numbers without regard for long-term reliability and it seems like they haven't really changed that philosophy. TapOut ensures your tune won't result in catastrophic failure. I'm pretty sure they also recommend plugs and coils with the tune just to be 100% rock solid and that's definitely good advice.

Don't believe them that there's no way for dealers/GM to detect the tune though. There's inertial sensors and all sorts of trickery OEMs put in place to detect piggy-back tunes that create 'impossible' levels of acceleration/etc. It was a cat and mouse game between tuners and OEMs back in 2009, and I'm sure it hasn't changed since I stopped paying attention.

Tuning/modifying your car POTENTIALLY negates any sort of warranty coverage FWIW. I've never run a JB4 tune and not sure what footprint that leaves behind that would be detectable by a dealership and potentially get your vin/car blackflagged.

I'd say do it right and get the actual tune via HPTuners but that's just personal preference. If you'd like actual feedback from the man himself, @WONT TAP is an active member of the forum.

I am currently running the jB4 and I will be getting a HP tune very soon. I do not trust this device. I am not comfortable with the constant check engine light that pops up. I have a 700+ hp LS based truck that is HP tuned. I feel more comfortable with a dedicated tune than a caned tune.

Ya I can’t tune it with HP tuners when it has a 84mon warranty. It’s not worth it to me at this point.

What are your mods? Is it just the JB4 or do you have the intake and or down pipes. I am looking at the simple white belt so if I need to bring it in for warranty work I can unplug it. I am interested to hear what your setup is

If you're genuinely that worried about your warranty, just leave the car stock. lol. Or, don't worry about any warranty and just send it with the mods.

You're trying to have your cake and eat it too in this situation.

Ultimately, its your car but you have to understand that modifying your car runs the risk of issues arising that may not be covered under any sort of warranty. Also, these days with EPA restrictions being tighter than ever, it has become extremely difficult (and/or much more illegal) for tuners (i.e. APR/Cobb/Etc) to bypass emission standards to avoid triggering CEL's.

Again, tune your car. But wanting to do so without any CEL's while guaranteeing you will get full warranty coverage should something go wrong is asking a bit much. There are inherent risks - and in my personal opinion, even more so when using something like JB4.

Thanks this is my first car and that’s some great insight. I wish I would had thought of those things 🧐

I currently have the JB4 and the Tapout oversized carbon air/green filters lid with the added colder plugs. I am also about to install the the Tapout catless down pipe, larger throttle body and the Motorad ignition coils. I am going to change out the muffler part of the exhaust then send to a shop here in Austin for the HP tune.
