Is the data sharing completely over with?

If you think a major capitalist corporation is filled with “rat brain liberals” sharing data with insurance companies to make more money you are a seriously deranged idiot. Just having to type that sentence is embarrassing.
It's pretty simple? More tech, more intrusion and loss of rights and privacy...Yeah, Rat Brain liberals are usually the one pushing it. Because they don't even know what the unintended consequences are. They are younger generations and don't care about posting this, that or the other thing so why would disseminating your data matter? Easy man let's not construe this because the generational shifts don't lie.....

When the younger generation gets older and looks back on what was going on today they will see it for what is was, an insane misguided ideology.

How in any way is this a liberal thing? Just curious 🤔 I'm pretty sure it's a way for insurance companies to charge you more money, which sounds more of a "conservative" idea. Liberals are probably trying to come up with a way for insurance to be free. I feel like there's so many (uneducated) people online that find something they don't like and they just label it "liberal".
"Free" insurance? Sounds like healthcare..

The current richest man in the world who owns not one, not two, but THREE of the biggest technology companies in the world is... wait for it.... wait.. for.. it.... a conservative.

He's also responsible for defining the technology movement of tracking and OTA software for vehicles. It's very easy to see you haven't thought this through, and even you know it.

I guess I don't know or think before I speak. Anyway, the guy your referring too is quoted as saying this in early/mid 2022?

“In the past I voted Democrat, because they were (mostly) the kindness party,” he wrote. “But they have become the party of division & hate, so I can no longer support them and will vote Republican.” I referenced "hypocrisy" in previous post certainly you remember. Now, this dude is king of "hypocrisy" and habitual liar with no regard to the unintended consequences of "his tech" Why should he care right? There is no GDPR in the USA my friend and ONLY a handful of states have enacted similar legislation. This is free market capitalism and for the most part which will do whatever anybody wants with your "Data" and with zero consequences other than personal lawsuits which you won't have the time or money to pursue? Next Please.......

You're too dumb to realize that you THINK this is a "liberal vs conservative" argument, but it's actually a "rich vs poor" argument. Do you know why we have tracking and data sharing? Money. You've fallen into the trap of trying to argue with your fellow man instead of being mad at people treating you like a product. This is precisely what they want, regardless of political affiliation.

Once you realize this isn't a political argument, we can continue talking. Until then: educate yourself.

Awww, this is a quaint internet pissing contest circa 1997. You guys new to the internet?

But God Speak said, If you think a major capitalist corporation is filled with “rat brain liberals” sharing data with insurance companies to make more money you are a seriously deranged idiot. This is what passes for creativity in your life. Yikes.

To be more specific in adressing the OP’s question on when GM stopped their data sharing scheme via the OnStar Smart Driver feature…it appears to have been 3/20/2024. FTC came out with a press release today.
FTC Takes Action Against General Motors for Sharing Drivers’ Precise Location and Driving Behavior Data Without Consent

In the third paragraph, you can acces the formal complaint that lays out all the facts. Makes me cringe when I go through it. Just wondering how much they collected in fees from sharing our driving behavior. And wondering how many drivers were adversely affected with their auto insurance carrier.

Thank you for posting that link. What's not addressed in the formal complaint that I just glanced over was the fact that I and many others expressly opted OUT of the OnStar services when taking delvery of the vehicle only to see them mysteriously be turned ON weeks or months later.

It does seem like GM is no longer selling/sharing the data so maybe I will finally reconnect that cable in the trunk.
