CT5 BW brake parts

Thanks @Daijoubu. I assume these are supplied with every 5BW, even those without CCB? I don't have CCB, and found these in my trunk - was not quite sure what to do with them. Should they be installed and left on for normal driving? Or only for track? Seems like a lot of work to install and remove for each track session. Thx!
The steel ones get put on for every day driving. The plastic ones which I assume are on your car, or track use only. But I don’t see an issue with leaving them on. To be honest the dealers are putting them on because they think they need to go directly onto the car. They have no clue that they are for track only And this is exactly what @Daijoubu Is trying to explain.

I looks like with the CCBs and no CF1 the only parts to install are the front tire deflectors and the rear suspension arm covers. I have no tomahawks and I’m pretty sure my dealer did not install them because they didn’t install anything, they are lazy. When I jack the car up over the weekend I’ll look more closely.

The rear cooling deflectors are ONLY for steel brake cars, the CCB cars don't need it. Not sure if you are supposed to replace the front rotor shields with the tomahawk ones on a CCB car, or not. I have steel brakes, so that is what I am looking into the most.

If you don't track the car, there is nothing to do. I have my first track day coming up, and I'll probably have to track the car without the additional cooling parts anyway since I'm still working on getting them (planning to take it easy anyway).

It is a pain to have to take the rotors off to replace the front rotor shield with the smaller one, and remove the rear rotor shields. However, the rear air deflector can be taken on and off pretty easily (maybe without even taking the tires off. I plan to leave the track shields on the front and no shields on the rear. I'll put the air deflectors on for track and take them back off after (eventually, I get lazy about that stuff).

According the the manual, the front tire deflectors are supposed to be installed for street use and taken off for track. Those are the only parts I believe I need to install for street (CCB car).

Ah yes, well my car didn't even come with those to begin with, so I kinda forgot about them. I plan to put those back on when not tracking as well. (if I ever get them, can't even order them from a GM dealership right now it seems).

For a CCB car, the front tire deflector does seem to be the only part that needs removed. Everything else follow the wording of "with cast-iron brakes RPO JGH." Even though JGH is not the brakes RPO, it's J6H.

I had a request for a copy of the installation instruction that came with my brake cooling kit and thought I'd share a scanned copy here (I have steel brakes)

Sorry for the cock-eyed pages as the instructions were deeply creased from being folded up and wouldn't feed consistently into the scanner.

Thanks! Wow, all this stuff is giving me a headache...but thanks for the info. I need to spend some time understanding it all. Plus of course the hassle/cost of getting all this done. I don't plan to track the car much if at all, so thinking that maybe I don't need to do anything?

Got under the 5BW today and found there are the regular front rotor shields (no tomahawks) and the ball joint protectors (aka Front Lower Control Arm Deflector) were installed. Removed those (pictured) and installed the Front Tire Deflectors. This is for street with CCBs.

The tomahawks ARE the "front ball joint protector shields." They replace the standard dust shield. The big air deflector pictured is the the lower control arm deflector. It stays on all the time, track or street. The "front tire deflector" comes only on non CF1 cars and is removed for track use. Removing the lower control arm deflector is fine if you don't track the car.

My car didn’t come with the tomahawks and I don’t know for sure if I was supposed to get them with CCBs. Looking at the Lower Control Arm Deflectors installed they look well designed to funnel road debris (and air) to the rotors. I think it be a lot safer for the CCBs on the street with them off.

Edit: I just realized the tomahawks are the same as the Ball Joint Protector Front Rotor Shield and they aren’t used with CCBs. I was confused about that.

It’s actually pretty simple. The problem is there is no single piece of documentation that describes what is supposed to be on the car and what is added for track for iron vs. CCB. Then one has no idea what the dealer installed and if they even installed the right parts. Finally, there is no guarantee that the parts even came with the vehicle from the factory or if the dealer lost them. Pretty simple, right?

Agreed

Man this entire thread makes my head hurt. I got some plastic pieces in the trunk that I'm not going to check and hope for the best.

I guess I must be in that lower half....
I'm with you @565565. I was lost several posts ago. Maybe someone who really understands this can make a table showing the different options for street and track, for CCB and non-CCB cars.

Non-CF1 cars.
-Remove front tire deflector for track use.

Non-CCB cars.
-Apply all of the additional brake cooling mods provided.
-Remove front rotor dust shield and replace with front ball joint protector shield
-Remove upper and lower rear rotor shields
-Add rear lower control arm air deflectors

If you have CF1+CCB, there is nothing to do for brake cooling before track use.

All cars already have front air deflectors on front brakes, nothing needs to be done with those. CF1 cars have a strake in front of the front tires, which is why they don't have the tire deflector, so nothing to be done with those.

awesome, thanks @Daijoubu! Really appreciate this!

Only have experience with non-CF1 CCB 5BW. Remove front tire deflectors. Install rear lower suspension control arm covers. That's it.

You shouldn't be installing rear air deflectors for a CCB car. It's not needed, and can actually scoop debris into the big $$$ rotors.
Here are the parts in question, 22823592 and 22823593. I know where they go, but what are they for? They came in the trunk.
