Thinking of buying a Blackwing & have a question

I’ve been looking at a new 2024 CT4 V Blackwing and think I got a pretty good discount because it’s a year old. I was wondering why the dealer still had it in stock & the salesperson said it’s a niche vehicle. I looked at the VIN plate on the driver’s lock pillar & it was made in 4/24. That’s almost a year ago.

It may be a niche vehicle but I thought there was always a demand for these cars & therefore they didn’t last long on a dealer’s lot. Was I wrong in that thinking, or should I be looking over the car with a magnifying glass to see if something is wrong with it?

There are still some left-over new 2024 cars on the ground. There was an initial frenzy in 2022 when they were announced and folks thought they’d only make them for a year or 2 but as the supply chain has improved it’s a bit easier to get one (though carbon fiber and some paint colors are still tricky to obtain). Then there’s the whole “allocation” process thing that makes it harder for some dealers that don’t sell a lot or Blackwings to get more Blackwings…so…a dealer may say they are hard to get when in fact it’s hard for THEM to get one as opposed to a volume dealer such as Sewell in Texas that sells a TON of Blackwings so maybe it didn’t sell because they wouldn’t budge on price or it was marked up a bunch.

Is the car an automatic or a manual?

If the car is new and just been sitting any concerns should be eased by the warranty. Maybe it was just shuffled around or the spec isnt what people were looking for.

Might be reading little too much into it.

Make sure it has not been sold previously as it could be a buy back (laws differ on disclosure from state to state). Also, check the miles. Could have been driven by the dealership owner as a loaner without having been sold.

Most likely scenario is they have had a huge markup on it thinking they could cash in on the rarity. But they could not sell it and then it became a one year old car and now they have to discount it. There are some sites that track the pricing history of a car listed for sale.

I mean, mine was built in AUG22, but not delivered to dealer until late JAN23. So, there is no telling when the dealer actually received it either.

If they've had it that long do yourself a service and throw a low number at them. Plenty of others here, myself included, in Illinois that got decent deals on new cars. NO ONE SHOULD PAY MORE THAN STICKER. Sorry for the caps but that's how serious I am!

If you're OK with the spec the dealer chose for you, you should be able to get a smoking deal on it. They need that car off the lot yesterday as it's costing them money every day it sits there.

That’s a lot of miles for a new car. Typically new cars are 15 or less. That would also be a lot of test drives to not sell it. My guess is a manager at the dealer drove it but I would have questions about the mileage.

You can accumulate a lot of miles if you’re shuffling a car around especially if they have a lot of lots or multiple dealerships. It doesn’t take a lot

My first gen CTS-V was on the lot for over 2 years (inside the showroom actually). They had a huge dealer mark-up on it and wouldn't budge. They were also a Pontiac dealer and I came in to make a deal in the 6 speed GXP they had. We started BS'ing on the V1 and the sales guy said the GM really wanted to move it because it sat so long. I threw out my target GXP number and they took it! I still kinda regret not getting the GXP, but I would have been all weird about it being so rare so its probably for the best. Been on a great V journey ever since, so it all worked out. Point is a few miles and sitting is zero concern, for me at least.

If I was one of the people shuffling THIS car...I may be taking full advantage of those miles...

4V Blackwings aren't as in demand as 5V Blackwings, the fact its an automatic also makes it a tougher sell. Depending on the spec I wouldn't be surprised if it was sitting for a while.

It most likely hasn't been sitting for an entire year. These cars usually take forever to ship. If it was built last April I wouldn't be surprised if the dealer received it in August.

Either way if you like the build and like the price go for it. I would definitely be looking to get under MSRP for a year old auto 4V Blackwing.

Oh boy I hope it isn't five months still to ship a finished car :(

Seems to be a crap shoot. Its not as bad as it used to be but you can still be waiting longer then you should. Probably not 5 months but I wouldn't discount 2-3.

There's like 50 new 2025 manual blackwings listed on AutoTrader right now.

Mine’s been “in transit” for the past month. Not sure why it’s taken so long to get from Detroit to Reno, but there it is. Just got a text from the salesperson with an update on the location… it’s finally in Nebraska. So if it took a month to travel across two states, I guess it’ll cross the next three states and get to the dealership in a month and a half.

🤦🏽‍♂️
