Ummmm NJ says I need a user ID to order custom plates then when I try to register they say their system is down. Long Live the Government!

I think you also need a regular registration first, before you can get a custom plate.

Yep. Went through this. They then mail you a user ID and you can order plates and then wait 10 weeks for them to show up.

Also requires a current plate number.

Sure. I'll probably go back to a standard plate once my wife sees it, then refuses to ride in a car with such a stupid plate...that could take months, though.

You can get a logo'd plate that skips some of the new styling, though there's a character limit.
