I have a 2022 BW5 with about 4400 miles on it. It’s developed a small oil leak at a connection on the oil cooler. When the car is parked in the garage, you can see an oil spot develop on the floor over time. I had the leak looked at at the dealership from which I purchased the car last spring after winter hibernation was over. The service tech confirmed there is a leak there but stated that it was not severe enough that Cadillac would cover a warranty repair. He said I was welcome to pay for the repair myself out of pocket to the tune of $1700. Was wondering if anyone has ever experienced anything like this. I’ve never before had a warranty claim denied because of severity. Anyway, hibernation is going to be over again this year in a month or so and I’m looking for guidance on what to do. My warranty will be up in August, 2025 so I’d like to get this resolved before then.

I find what he’s telling you very hard to believe. If oil drips are being left on the floor, not only could you unintentionally run low on oil, causing engine damage, but that leak could be an early warning of catastrophic failure, happening while driving.

I’d escalate this beyond the service tech. Never heard of an active leak being denied warranty by any car manufacturer.

I thought oil leaks were covered by the powertrain warranty. Definitely escalate to service manager, general manager, or GM. And maybe look for an alternative dealership since that one is only out to extract money out of you.

I completely agree. A car should not be leaking ANY fluids. It might be time to look for a different dealer. A small leak now could become a BIG leak as time goes on.

Don't take no for an answer. Dealerships like warranty work, they just like customer pay more.

Absurd to tell you that it does not meet criteria for repair, then quote you a price to repair it. Escalate or go to another dealer.

FWIW, BMW is the same from what I’ve heard. If the leak is “seeping” (not dripping) they won’t cover it. I have 2 spots on my M5 that I’m keeping an eye on (upper oil pan and
timing chain cover). I’ll bring it up at my next service but I’m not optimistic. Sounds like you have a good case if it’s dripping, though. Good luck!
