So somebody brought this up, which I never noticed, manuals have emergency auto-braking? Its listed in the sticker under Safety but curious if anybody actually experienced it intervene in a manual car. Never had it intervene so figured it wasnt a manual thing, only in the autos.

Yup, they have it. I turned the auto braking feature off and have it set to just a warning. I don't want that thing braking for me as I've read stories about some cars being very aggressive about it.

Hmm, maybe thats the reason I never had it intervened, turned it off 2 years ago. We had a Palisade and an Odyssey now, the auto-braking feature always defaults to ON on restart so it gets old trying to turn it off. Surprised its not a case for these cars, specially after resetting power by unplugging the battery.

I saw the light come up to notify me, but I didn't feel the brake kick in. It could have been a slight delay, since I was on the brake almost immediately.

Dash notification and seat vibrating is what I get. But im starting to think that is the setting.

I've also had the light warn me, but I got on the brake before any intervention......not going to trust that it will.

I have mine set to the light only. It has gone off on me a few times that had the brakes been applied, it would have caused an accident. Ex: once going thru a construction zone, the sun would hit the reflective stripe on the barricades and the warning would go off. After a slight bend in the road, the sun didn't reflect and it stopped going off. It was weird. It did it at least a dozen times.

So it actually activated while set on notify only? Thats the part im asking about, if it actually apply for manuals. Always assumed that option was only for autos.

You will get a light in the HUD and a vibration/alert (depending on your alert settings) but it doesn't brake immediately. It does give you a little bit of time to react before it takes over.

One concern with the auto braking is a vehicle behind you. Most vehicles don't have the stopping power (or pay attention). I will ease up on the brake as the situation allows.

Meh, thats pretty much every scenario with jackass drivers behind you. The issue is more if it trips and randomly brake when it shouldnt, ie: no traffic around you. Seen that happen on Hyundai and Honda groups im in for my other vehicles that are automatics, thats why im more curious if Cadillac has had the same issue. Then I didnt realize that feature was also on manuals.

I've left mine on but not without serious consideration to disable. I have concerns but maybe it will save a life or damage and liability one day who knows. I'm a pretty attentive driver and don't think the feature will ever engage (for a good reason). Hopefully it will never be an issue.

My first experience with it was in boss ladies Denali. I was cruising on the highway approaching a turtle in the left lane. It braked so hard I thought something was wrong with the truck. Turned it off and never went back.

Several years before I retired, we got a bunch of new Freightliners with auto braking. Some of the sensors were not aimed correctly and would go off randomly. That was always fun at speed with 80,000 pounds. It really was a safety issue. That's why I just have the warning light on the dash and turned off the braking.

This is why I left it on. If I hit a pedestrian in an unavoidable accident and the accident investigator can determine that I had emergency braking turned off, I might have a lot of liability that my insurance will try hard not to cover.

The manual says stepping on the gas turns off the brakes, so I make it part of my (short) pre-drive checklist to remind myself to be ready to hit the gas if the brakes come on inappropriately. The next step would to pull over and turn it off. So far that hasn't happened.
