Agreed, if they would just let the market for EVs take care of itself instead of politicizing it then we we would be fine. EVs work for some folks right now and for others they don't. I have an EV but I can charge at home and we only use it for typical daily driving 40-50 miles per day. We don't take road trips in it although we could and it cost $36k, not $60-$80k.Well look at it this way. In Kalifornia a new valid excuse for not going into work is that there was not enough power to charge the car, or every charging spot in my apartment was taken. Lost wages, reduced worker productivity, higher cost for manufacturing. All "unintended" consequences.
EVs are only political because the politicians made them a political issue.
There also needs to be a lot more education around EVs. For example, most automatically think BEVs are cleaner than ICE but there are multiple factors that determine when the break even point actually is. For example, I work from home only drive the 4BW about 4000 miles per year, so technically my carbon footprint is pretty low since no one had to mine the minerals to make a 75 kWh battery pack.
Analysis: When do electric vehicles become cleaner than gasoline cars?
