Hey all, being that my CT5 BW is a come up off of somebody else’s discarded order, it doesn’t have all of the options I’d have selected… close, but not quite.

Has anyone purchased/installed an after market GM OME Dashcam?

My car should be arriving any day now, and I want to ensure as much safety/insurance as possible. I saw the thread where the dealership wrecked a dude’s CF splitter and without the video likely wouldn’t have been compensated.

Next question is has anyone bought parts from capitolchevy.com?

The "OEM" one is just a rebadged model from another manufacturer and likely a very old model. You'd be better served getting a new dashcam with modern features.

Can't go wrong with either of these:

Thanks for the heads up. I’m going to cancel my order for the OEM. It is only 1080p clarity as opposed to 4K. Also since you have experience using the product, I’d rather use something road tested and recommend than something from the dealership.

I went with a VIOFO as well (A119 mini 2). I hardwired it to the fuse box at same time as my radar detector.

I have that model dash cam in my other car. Works well and has a clear picture. Vortex Radar on YouTube has some good dash cam reviews.

I have a VIOFO 129. They have changed for the better over the years. A You Tube video rated VIOFO as #1 in a comparison.
I absolutely love this forum! I appreciate the suggestions from those with experience. I also appreciate being stopped from making mistakes… so I cancelled my order from the caddy dealership, and bought myself the VIOFO 129 Pro Duo, complete with the hardwiring kit, a 64Gb sim, and polarized lens all for less than the OEM.

I realized the 64 GB will get eaten up in a flash. So I ordered the 256 GB and will return the 64.

Which hardwiring kit did you use? Does anyone have an install tutorial for the 5BW?

My neighbor recommended the VIOFO A229 or the newer A329. Anyone have any experience with these?

I just ordered it all yesterday. I went directly from the VIOFO website (same prices as Amazon). Whichever can you choose to go with, it will automatically show you the options to bundle with it. The hardwired kits all say which cams they are to wire. I thought about going with 329, but didn’t see what it offered that the 129 pro duo didn’t. All I really want it for is for accident liability and parking peace of mind (oil changers/dealership handling too after seeing the video of the tech at the dealership ruining dude’s CF splitter).

Looks like the A329 60FPS doesn’t offer much advantage over A229 Pro 30FPS. The big difference is the external SSD that can be used on the A329.

I had my car in for some work at a shop and he could not see the camera tucked up by the rear view mirror. I caught the guy on camera talking shit about me and my family business and how he was going to charge me extra. After I saw and heard the footage, we cancelled doing business with them ($$$$ lost for him) and other friends of ours also stopped doing business with them. The guy called to apologize about what he said and he was told to go pound sand. He was caught revealing the true self. This was in the middle of COVID. He went out of business a few months later. He told people that his mouth ruined his business. Oh well !

Damn! I mean I get your stance and all… but at the same time, if people know you have money, of course they’re gonna upsell and over overcharge. It doesn’t make it good business, but it’s just how it goes, hopefully we as the consumer are smart enough to keep the wool out of our eyes. It’s part of why I don’t make it known that I’ve got dough. I look just like I did when I was broke, and I keep it that way. Now that I’ll be driving a BW5 though it’s gonna be hard to keep that low key profile.

As far as dude talking trash, If dude was sincere in his apology I’d have given him another shot (if he does good work). Maybe he’d remember he was in the wrong and would stay on the up n up or go the extra mile. Seems like going out of business for one mistake is really unfortunate.

The dash cam is a must though when driving a 100k+ vehicle!

The guy showed what he really was, by what he was caught talking about on the camera to one of his employees. There was no apology gonna keep us doing business. His days were numbered anyway. There is a new owner there now that we do business with and so far, so good. I have cameras on my summer home and it caught a HVAC guy talking shit about how we have a garbage heating/ac system that was a pain to do maintenance on. THEY were the ones that recommended and sold it to us ! He was a dirt bag that was soon fired after it was found that he would sabotage the system to get more work. When you find an honest and qualified mechanic....keep them and treat them well.
I don't have faith in my local Cadillac dealership to do quality work on my Blackwing and need to find someone for after my warranty expires. There is a local guy who specializes in only Corvettes and I will ask him if he will do Blackwings since they basically have the same DNA.
