Blackwings and Watches

With my Navitimer

I love those, so elegant and very comfortable bracelets. I had one, years ago.

I almost bought one last month, but couldn't agree on the price, and really, how many watches does a boy need?
I like to rotate out (sell) ones that I lose fondness for over the years. Sold a couple last year. This year I’m thinking either or both Zenith and Panerai for something different.

As many as can fit in the safe.... I rotate wearing my watches depending on what I'm wear that day so you can never have to many watches..

Some really cool watches here. I've always loved watches, but I just need to know, all of you with chrongraphs and navtimers, do you use all of those functions?

My current watch is a Casio Waveceptor. I ran networks and servers for long enough that I really like having a precise watch

I used to use my chronograph for grilling. Unfortunately, I can't see it without readers now, so I shelved it and got a dive watch. I time steaks with my phone now.

Can any of you with experience comment on Panerai watches? I have an opportunity on a Luminor Marina that is from 2008 in near new condition. I just don't know enough about them. Google will tell me what I want to hear. I'd prefer real world experienced horologists.

A very good brand but a bit different in design, so if it fits your eye you will love it. I would look at Chrono24 and WatchCharts.com to check the price, but if that checks out, buy and enjoy.

They are decent enough. I have owned a handful over almost 25 years now. I have never needed a service on a Panerai watch, and most models are simple enough that any competent watchmaker can handle a typical movement overhaul. Strap options galore, easily changed at your desk.

I settled on a single piece some years ago, PAM372. It is essential Panerai for me.

Thank you both. The design is definitely a little different than others. The crown protector is pleasing to my eyes. Truth be told I've been waiting a couple months for delivery of a yachtmaster and this is really scratching my itch in the mean time. Not to mention this thread really has sparked more and more interest to me. Grailzee has been at the top of my view list lately. I was not aware of how large the resale market is. I scored this 2008 for 4g with all the original box, papers, and bands. It looks brand new to me. Open to critique.

I like them a lot. I have several other high end brands but I very rarely see another Panerai. As mentioned above, lots of strap options which is nice especially with a neutral dial. This is Luminor Marina 1314. My wife got me this as bday present purchased at a Panerai boutique. My suggestion, purchase them preowned, you’ll save a good amount.

I looked at that exact seamaster as it is similar to the yachtmaster I'm waiting for. In my best Borat voice, Very Nice!.

My apologies my dudes. I fucked up my pic post. Will report back later with the proper background.

Panerai's reputation has been up and down lately, with a "scandal" (overblown) about Panerai's P.9200 movement being labeled as "In House" in the early 2020s and the Luminor Due betraying the brand heritage by being a little 38mm watch with minimal WR.

In my opinion, Panerai still has one of the most passionate followings of any watch brand, the pieces are iconic, and IMO a 2008 Luminor Marina (PAM00104) is a killer watch for the current market price. It is frequently counterfeited though, so exercise caution if buying online from a non-reputable seller.

If I'm parking in a 20minute green zone, I'll use my chronograph or dive bezel to time it because it's less of a hassle than futzing through all the screens in my phone. I have yet to find a realistic use for the Tachymeter scale as there are much better solutions for on-track data and timing these days

I was seriously considering getting a Luminor Marina recently. The turn off was the new P.9010 movement which by all accounts is a cost cutting measure even though the watch lists for nearly $9K (and no hacking seconds!) The good news, if you want to call it that, is the price dives substantially in the used market. I would only consider used.

Ended up getting an IWC Pilot chronograph and really happy with it. Haven’t posted pics, but will soon.
