2023 BMW competition announced

I was a bit set on getting one of these in about 1.5 years from now. That would put me just under 3 years of ownership on the CT4 and probably around 50-55k miles. After seeing the body, the weight and the fact that the price is probably going to be 70k with the options I want, I probably would just spend 10k more and get the M3. I want one more manual car after this one which would take me to 2026/2027 time frame.

Ideally the price on gently used 982 4.0 would come down to the mid/high 80s and I would get one of those instead.
You have to keep in mind you'd have to add those same options to the M3 for a little more than they cost on the M2 (probably). Will likely end up a little more than a $10k difference.. that being said, lightly used M3 vs new M2 for less than a 5k difference and I'm probably driving away in the M3.

We are in the same boat on the 982 though.

I guess it depends on how they do the options. The M3 I would spec is 81k. The M2 is 63.2k, buckets are 4.5k, paint is .6k which puts me at 68.3k. That leaves the carbon roof which I assume will be about 2k. I don't trust them thought not to do some kind of carbon package with the roof or seats that pulls another 1-3k out of mine that I didn't want to spend.

The roof thing is a total pisstake and for sure went into their decision on the relatively low-ish MSRP. Reckon they are pretty certain loads of folks will option at least the CF roof to get rid of the hole in the roof... and then well why not get the whole package.

It kind of depends. Apparently in the UK the carbon roof is standard if you don't want the sunroof. All paint colors are also standard. In Canada the carbon roof and seats can only be packaged together in a 13k carbon package. Question is which route they'll be taking in the US. My hopes would be if anything roof is extra but seats and roof aren't packaged together. I want the carbon seats, i wouldn't pay extra for the carbon roof.

Ya no Caddys in the UK ;-) Well no Blackwings anyways.
I thought the main Bimmerpost thread said the sunroof would be standard. So I was going off that. Hmm, now I need to check that again!

Edit: Ya BMW states in the launch announcement 'you can choose the carbon fiber roof option' and it is listed as such under the standard equipment/options section. There it is both as standalone and part of the package.

I was going off of youtuber Joe Achiles. He said the sunroof is standard but the carbon fiber roof is a no charge option if you don't want the sunroof... so for 70% of M2 buyers you might as well call the carbon roof standard in the UK lol but yeah I haven't read any official BMW release articles. Just watched video after video haha

Gotcha. The main post on the main G87 Bimmerpost thread is worth a read, it lays out what the US market is getting really plainly.

Order guide supposedly dropping tomorrow. Should know my build price by mid to late afternoon

I really like it as well. The red is ugly, but I can see it looking great in a bright green or blue.
IOMG for me! I'm luke warm now, but after a n year run in the 4BW and hopefully with a last model year CTR in hand, I'll probably end up trying an LCI M2.

Cool colour thread here!

$2600 seems fair for the CF roof. This isn't all options, just a specific order for example.

The only issue (which may change in the future) I see with that, when I was asking before about "individualization" on an m240i is that there are limited options available. I wanted to see about a grey interior or a different paint, and they basically said it couldn't be done with vehicles produced in the San Luis Potosi plant.

Not sure why the M2 won't be available in Thundernight, either.
