288 Miles and an engine failure

Now, we see the obvious result of what was going on, but unless we know the exact building process, we don't really know how it happened. I've seen lots of videos of engine building where they use automated torqueing devices and where a computer selects individually spec'd parts to be used in a specific place. That, in itself could open up another can of worms, but realistically, without input from the builder I don't think we have a good answer.

It might seem to be an aberration, given the number of good engines out there, but IMO, I would have this incident immediately scrutinized by the GM Performance Build Center at Bowling Green in case there are procedural things that might need attention.
Engine failed, gets dissected by GM and a new replacement is sent and installed. Done. How many is that? Engine fails? What failed, and what was the solution?

Waiting for Phillies to get off the mat, again! If not, go home with home field ok. What additional info posted on meltdown @shbox ?

Good news to you all. If you pop your 5BW motor they will send you a new one from Michigan. It's not the typical LT4 that GM puts into the ZL1 and Z06. Loads more titanium and different components. Can @Rob set up an order tracker for my motor now? :(

Sounds like they'll have all the parts for it by the end of this week at the latest. They're being pretty thorough and replacing literally everything that touches oil. Supercharger and oil cooler, and some of the lines.

I had the motor replaced in my C8 at a very large dealership. When I got it back it was 3 quarts low on oil, some of the underside plastics were cracked, and a ton of the fasteners for the underbody were missing.
Luckily they pulled my motor from the top and GM has been involved with every step. Every time they take off a panel they took a photo and sent it to GM. As far as I’m aware this is the first failure like this. Car and driver blew theirs up just absolutely beating the piss out of it. This was just normal driving and failed components. I’m just surprised it didn’t destroy itself sooner.

Hopefully the technicians replacing the LT4 in this Blackwing take more pride in their work but unfortunately this tends to be par for the course when you tear apart a vehicle.

I’m in the auto industry and I’m on a decent first name basis with everyone putting my car back together. I think I’ll be fine.

Good to hear. Hoping you get it back on the road soon and start that break-in again.

No doubt. And a substantial warranty is backing you up.

I'd love to know the cost of the new crate motor and such. I'll try to get a breakdown from the service advisor when it's done
Lt4 crate motors have been available for awhile

$16K isnt bad for a fully dressed long block with all accessories including the blower. When I blew my LS7, that engine was $14K.

New motor arrived yesterday at the dealer

Did you push for any compensation? I am in a similar situation with a ct4 v blackwing ( bad steering rack after 9 miles)

I’m in talk with GM regarding the fact that I’ve now made 2 payments and paid for shipping on a car I put all of 288 miles on. I’ve put more miles on their Buick encore loaner than my own car. No promises yet but I’m pushing for warranty up to 100k miles or them to cover a payment or two
