Coming up on 8% life for the oil on the Oil Life Indicator. Just curious when most people elect to change the oil & filter.

It's not just time. It's a sophisticated algorithm that factors in time, mileage, operating temperatures, cold starts, etc....a lot of very knowledgeable engineers spent years developing it. I wouldn't secondguess unless you just want to change earlier than it's calling. Probably not needed, but if it makes one feel better, by all means...

Yes, I love a good oil thread!

I change mine (use Redline) between 5000-7500 miles depending on time.

Let's get this oil thread up to temp...I think Trump oil is best! Too soon? No I agree the OLI is very good and usually change when it pops up as due (10%?) or 12 month intervals which is typically the case for my BW (not a daily). Just ordered a case of Supercar as a matter of fact.

Same for me as @jbawden stated. My GMC truck can’t quite make year as it’s driven more, but the 5BW is annually as it’s rarely driven. Threads like this are so fun 🤗

Pretty subdued compared to some other vehicles. There’s not the heated debate about brands, viscosity, moly formulations, etc. Maybe someone will come along and propose some crazy concoction.
At least while under warranty, everyone is kind of stuck with Dexos oil formulation. I've heard great things about Penzoil Ultra Platinum, but it isn't Dexos certified. I'm sure it meets or exceeds, but they haven't paid to get it on the label.

The tin-foil lab coat wearing petroleum scientists show up mid-way down page 2 and then its shut down on page 9. Someone will be banned...good times!

Speaking of lab coat waring scientists- This guy has a wealth of knowledge on his channel. Like more than you'd ever want to know but he breaks it all down and explains everything. It's great if you want to learn about tribology.

Few circumstances;
5,000 miles or less.
After each track day.
After a Tail of the dragon trip. (~2,500 miles and a week of hard driving)

My second OL% was 9% at 6780 miles. This interval over 6 months, mixed driving, but included a 2000 mile trip and Cherohala Skyway.

Another OL% was 18% at 6151 miles. This interval was over 15 days and included a drive over the Back of the Dragon :) . Oil was changed right before I left and immediately when I got back.

The algorithm does its thing.

You could drive 50 miles in 6 months and be @ 40% on Oil Life Indicator. Every answer under the sun coming up!
The GM Oil Life indicator uses both time and mileage (as well as a bunch of other factors) as core parts of how it calculates remaining life. Even if you drive 0 miles, it will make you change the oil once a year.

About every 3500 - 5000 miles. I do some at the dealership and the in-betweens at home.
