CT5-V Oil change for ct5V BW

CT5-V Model
Since I'm impatiently waiting for my car to be built, I've been watching a bunch of car videos and yes there is even a popular "Motor Oil Geek" that will take you waaaaay down the rabbit hole of lubrication. He says a break-in oil change is essential. You should be doing 500, 1500, and 3000 mile changes with oil analysis to determine if/when you can relax to a more normal interval:

He also says you should absolutely be filling the new oil filter with new oil before you screw it on since most of your engine wear happens at turn on and an empty oil filter significantly delays the oil from properly flowing the first time you start it up.
This was super interesting & informative, thank you for passing it along!

He's got a great channel if you want to learn a ton about lubrication. There's another video he recently posted where he shows the old formula in Mobil 1 is absolutely not recommended for DI engines. There's another video where he shows how much more demanding forced induction is compared to naturally aspirated on the oil.

Yes he's ultimately selling his oil analysis service but he doesn't hit you over the face with it and most videos you'll miss it entirely.

I changed the oil last night. It went well.
Thanks to all with the helpful info.
The race ramps really make changing the oil easy.

Awesome, which size Race Ramps did you buy?
I believe the part number for the two piece ramps is Item: RR-XT-2, and the extensions part number is Item: RR-EX-14 (Race Ramp Web site).
They are obviously not cheap ramps but they make getting under your car to change the oil much easier.

Dumb question. Being at that angle, does it allow for complete oil drainage?

A couple of videos I've watched suggest pouring an extra quart of oil through the engine once you've drained it to flush out as much old oil as possible, so that might help while using the ramps. It's probably overkill to some extent, but I'll probably do it because I plan on having this car for a long time.

Hey, there are no dumb questions😀.
Because the drain plug is on the side of the oil pan, and not on the back of the pan, I would assume there is a little oil left in the pan.

When the plug is on an angle or side, I slightly jack the opposite side to help it drain. OCD stuff, LOL.

Do you absolutely need the RR-EX14 extenders. Race Ramp calculator doesn't indicate that they are necessary on a 5BW. What is your opinion? Thanks

I bought the race ramps years ago when I had a different vehicle and I needed the extenders. So I use them for the 5BW since I have them.
I have not tried the ramps with out the extenders. If the Race Ramp calculator indicates you don't need them, then you probably don't.

I too use ramps to change the oil, and since the plug is near the rear, I don't sweat the 1.8 ounces that may be remaining in the pan. However, I have been known to jack up the other side of the car to help let that last little bit drain out...
