Just had windshield #3 installed yesterday and Ive got a new rattle coming from the overhead.

I already dug into the area around the rearview to re-wire my radar detector and I cant find any noisemakers there, had to fix some oversights from Safelite but its pretty secure, seems like the noise is coming from behind the headliner near the overhead console maybe where the wires from the rearview module feed in.

How do I pop that overhead console free, just tug on it or are there any hidden fasteners I need to remove first?

I am the King of windshields my friend! minimum 3qty per year. The absolute last place to have your glass installed is Safelite........complete joke my friend. Tell your insurance to piss off and take it where you know it will be handled professionally!

No argument, Safelite did my last one and it was fine, theres maybe one or two other options on this mountain, small town operators, and Id be full of shit if I said I was happy with Safelite. The glass is in and I just want to fix this rattle.

Are you in AZ also?

My record was four, on a Ford Transit Connect (which, to be fair, had a lot of windshield). I've taken to planning routes to minimize my time on freeways.

My cousin lives in Gilbert AZ and has to replace his windshields a couple times per year. Driving back and forth to Phoenix does a number on glass and painted front ends. But.....its a dry heat !!

In AZ you need those race car windshield tear-offs. My mother lived in Tucson and it took a day for my rental to pick up a stone chip.

A buddy of mine went to Vegas and rented a Lambo. Good thing he took the insurance. He got a stone chip on day one and the windshield was $5000 to replace.

I really just want to know how to remove the overhead panel

Hijacking this thread since some of you in here have had multiple windshields. Assuming you got Factory GM glass, does the GM marking indicate "HUD" on all heads-up-display compatible glass? I just had my windshield replaced and the glass does not say "HUD" like the factory glass did and there is now a bad double-vision display occurring with my HUD. Dealer says they installed the correct glass and the HUD just needs to be tweaked.

@Blackwing16 .....I just checked mine. The original OEM windshield it came with. Lower passenger side, it DOES say HUD. Sorry, not a great photo. Think you dealer is, um, confused.

There are different part numbers with and without HUD:

That's what I was expecting to see. I have a picture of my original glass and it also says HUD. Without these markings, I figure it would be extremely difficult for an installer to tell the difference between the different types of windshields.

The invoice that the dealer provided me lists the correct part number, but it doesn't appear the actual part number is listed on the windshield itself. Just some designator markings that I cant find a decoder for online. So maybe their parts people put the wrong windshield on or had one inventoried as the wrong part number.

Mine also has HUD on it. Maybe someone who doesn't have HUD can post what theirs says.

Seems silly to have two part numbers at the same price instead of having HUD capable for all installations. Maybe originally the HUD part cost 5 cents more and that justified a different part.

The sticker in my window says "HUD".

My guess is the reflective material in the HUD version would be annoying on a non-HUD car.

Even the non-OEM windshield installed on my Z06 has the HUD stamping and the HUD did not require any tweaking. Double-vision is a symptom of having non-HUD glass installed.
