CT5-V Ikon anti-theft

CT5-V Model
If I found something like that in any new car purchase I'd have a hard time not removing it and putting it into another car that doesn't belong to me. A test drive of a competitor car, a rental, uhaul, cop car, pace bus. Anywhere but where they tried it.

I went with this one. For them to get it off they’d have to destroy the damn thing which defeats the purpose.

I haven’t put it on yet. I just got the keys/car yesterday and dropped it off to get wrapped/tinted. When I bring it home next week I’m gonna put on the blocker and install the dash A129 Duo Pro dash/rear cam. I’m also gonna buy a Club just for visual detergent when I’m out and about. I’m fucking anxious someone’s gonna try n steal it. I’ve never been before about a car, but I’ve also never paid 125k for a car until now. 🤷🏽‍♂️
Are thieves starting/stealing cars through OBD?

What is special about the key? It almost looks like a standard hex bolt.

lol

You mean like a test to see if their shit even recognizes having been removed?

I still have to register the device. Apparently I can also add up to seven other people on the account so that they are notified if the other person is in an accident or something somehow (I’ll have to double check that). If true, I figure that’s pretty fuckin awesome. My mom is 75 and drives six hours to go visit my brother and his kids along some pretty desolate areas and winding roads.

Yeah man. Apparently some thieves can plug in to the OBD and reprogram so that the car recognizes their device as a legit key. The really good/hi-tech ones can sometimes get dealership codes so that they can open the car without even setting off an alarm or anything. I’m back and forth between my Bay Area and mountain homes, and being so close to Silicon Valley I figure there’s some pretty savvy mofos about. Heard a ring was caught shipping stolen high value vehicles overseas to be sold…. I ain’t tryin to have some asshole in Korea or Russia drive my car. I’m the only asshole that gets that privilege!

Also, the site says the keys are specific to the devices. They switch it up every 100 units, that way the chances of somebody having the right key is negligible.

I don't care if the device has some benefits. It's the point of the dealership forcing a product on a car deal. After glancing at their website, my impression of Ikon is that they are there to leverage dealers to use their produce and jointly make $$.

That was my impression too. That said, my guess is I’m stuck with it. We’ll see. I mean shit, even if they take it back and give me credit to buy accessories I’d do it. That $300 and my $300 in points would buy me the blacked out badges and the bronze wheel caps.

Dude! That’s a great f’n idea… never woulda thought of it if it weren’t for you. 🤙🏽

Thanks! That's the best one I could find too. Great minds think alike. ;) The only thing better would be to disconnect/de-pin the ODB cable, leave the stock port as a decoy, and relocate the cable with a new connector somewhere else giving your alarm time to attract some attention hopefully.

A club just means they're going to saw through your wheel to remove the club.

Word. The hope is that seeing it will let them know it will require more effort on their part than another. Combine that with the dash cam, the OBD block, and the alarm, and hopefully it’s enough deterrent to make em pass it up. I mean even the best alarm/tech is just deterrent. 🤷🏽‍♂️

I installed the Soler BT Throttle Controller on both my 5BW & C8 Corvette. Not only does it allow for customization of the throttle but it works as an anti-theft device. You can disable the throttle via their app on your phone such that the vehicle can be started & idle but pressing the throttle does nothing. One could technically drive away with the car in idle but you could walk faster than the car could be driven. (Disclaimer: I have no financial ties with Soler. I'm just a happy customer.)

I think the OBDII lock linked above by my bay area neighbor is a good idea to slow the process. For those circumstances where I'm parking overnight and not at home, is there a preferred fuse removal move?

I thought about getting one of those too. Again, it’s just deterrent as the thief could remove it, but any steps to make it harder for somebody to steal is a good idea.

I do wonder if it’s overkill and I’m just being paranoid. Maybe I should ask the people that are following me around trying to get me. 🤤🤣

Thanks for the tip on the brand though. If I go that route I’ll keep it in mind.

The Solar BT Throttle isn't very easy to remove. In order to remove it to make the vehicle driveable afterwards, the battery has to first be disconnected. Then there are many steps after that.

But you are right, any thief looking to steal a vehicle will be able to do it if they have enough time &/or are determined enough.

Just spoke with one of the salesmen I was dealing with. He said they would credit me the dough and that I can toss the thing in the bin.

Gonna use the credit towards buying the blacked out badges and the bronze wheel hubs to go with the bronze wheels that should arrive in a few weeks here.
