General configuration questions

Any suggestions on high volume dealers in the PA/NJ area that might have 2025 allocations? I’m striking out.
No one will have 5 BW allocations at the moment, because they are not available for order yet.

Hmm, I guess that’s exposing some incompetence inside the local dealers I’ve contacted. There wasn’t even an offer to get on a waitlist, I was just told all their 2025s were spoken for (with the dealers that even responded).

Are there any recommended Blackwing specialist dealers in the PA, NJ, NY area?

It may be that those dealers have a general idea how many allocations they will get for the 25MY and already have orders on hand that will cover those allocations. They may be holdovers from 24MY orders that didn't get picked up by GM and the dealer will convert them 25.

Reach out to Danny Brendler at Paul Conte Cadillac, Freeport NY. They have a couple 24's right now and will most likely have some 25's coming. 516-378-1130

try Bergey's (formerly Armen) in Plymough Meeting, PA (20-30 minutes west of Philly). Ask for Tony. Smaller dealer, sold at MSRP, no BS add-ons.

Thanks on the dealer suggestions.

I might be able to secure one elsewhere, will know on Monday.

I stopped by Delaware Cadillac today to check out some 2024s they have on the lot, my first in person experience with the car.

Questions:

What exactly are the differences between the performance seats and the high performance option seats? All 5 of the cars there didn’t list the high performance seat option on the sticker, but they were very heavily bolstered (almost too much for my frame, even with the widest settings). The sales person didn’t know there was even a high performance seat option, but I do see it on the configurator.

Is power limited during break in? The car I drove was brand new, and then tach showed red above 4k rpms, but I was able to wind it to redline. I am not sure if I experienced full power, however, because it might be limited? After a few zings, the car threw a ESC fault, which the sales guy said was due to the hard driving under break in. Dunno about that.

No it isn't. The tachometer showing a 4k rpm redline, is only meant to be a reminder, not to go to its actual 6500 rpm redline, during break in. Not sure what you consider a zing, but you shouldn't do any full throttle pulls during the break in period, whether you kept it below the recommended 4000 rpm max or not.

If you did either of these and the salesman allowed or even encouraged you to, I wouldn't buy a car from that dealership.

Yeah, bad on Todd for doing that.

Bad Todd!

Interesting. For 668hp, I just expected… a bit more. It was quick, but certainly didn’t feel 668hp quick.

The quandary of test drives. I certainly wouldn’t buy a car like this if I weren’t permitted to properly test drive it. Catch-22.

Note to self: Don't buy any of the BWs for sale at Delaware Cadillac...
This isn’t a reflection at all on Delaware Cadillac, I simply helped myself to full acceleration when behind the wheel without asking permission. The sales person did not encourage me in any way.

Yeah that's something I've noticed and the magazines have touched on. If you are used to a German twin turbocharged ZF8 speed machine then the Blackwing won't feel as fast, even if it's actually faster. Wife has a X3M comp, which runs very similar times in ET and trap speed to your RS6. Everytime I get on it I think, "holy fuck this thing is so fast" but I look down a the speedo as it's doing about 5 to 10mph slower than the Blackwing would at that point. It's a combination of very linear power delivery and extremely long gears.

6 speed Blackwings usually dyno in the 615 to 630whp range which is healthy for a 668 hp rating. It's actually a bit better than most M5comps will dyno despite that S63 being ridiculously underrated. It's also about 40 to 50 hp better than LT4s in the C7 z06 and Camaro ZL1s despite the blackwing version of the LT4 being rated at only 18hp more.

I’m very familiar with high hp, lower torque cars, so I wasn’t confusing the sensation of torque with hp, so I guess I’ll chalk this up to the long gearing. It wasn’t hugely underwhelming, it just never seemed to fully explode with power.

Got it. Yes, there may be a ticking timebomb in the current stock of Blackwings at that dealership due to my criminal behavior.

We all realize that these engines are dyno tested during factory calibration, right? If revving it to redline a time or two during break in was guaranteed to blow it up, that 4k redline would be an actual redline.

Either way, I already knew I was going to hell.

Did you have it in v mode or some type of sport setting? When it's in comfort mode it feels a little lazy.

Just wait, LT4s in the Blackwing will occasionally explode with power... and engine bits.
Either way, I already knew I was going to hell.

The 37th circle of hell is reserved for break-in test drive redliners, just before left lane campers and just after truck nut afficionados.

This may be classified as a dumb question....but.....if you put your 5BW into "track" mode will it stay there until you remove it? Will it still be set after you park the car and restart it? What about if you have your "V" mode button pre set ? If you push the "V" mode button, on the wheel, will it over ride the track button you pushed if your "v" mode is set to touring or sport modes ?
**PS: today is my 5BW's 2nd birthday ! So far, 4500 miles on her ! Foam cannon wash and filled her up with a nice tank of 93 octane !

I felt the same way during break in…car didn’t feel that fast. I stayed under redline mostly and felt like power reduced….after 500 mi break in, not sure if more power or supercharger pressure or just the higher 6500 redline with more “pull” after 4000 rpm but there is a good amount of power that I feel now and much happier for it!

Two more thoughts: the first few times we dip our toe into the deep well of torque, we (most of us, I hope) are careful and wary of losing traction or abusing the car. Secondly, as the engine gets broken-in, it generally loosens up and typically generates more power.
