I just dropped my 2022 Kia Telluride off at the local dealer to get the check engine light looked at. I looked on the wall and had a heart attack ! $ 210 per hour labor rate !
I need to move out of NY. The Kia dealer is the same owner as the Cadillac dealer. They probably all charge the same rate.

Probably because of the extra security needed to keep it from being stolen. LOL! :ROFLMAO:

Costs more to change the oil on my wife's telluride than it does on my 4BW. lol.

I have two teen drivers that operate some higher mileage cars and I'm determined to never pay that shop fee. It's keeping my busy, but I'm adding to my tool collection and tackling new challenges, so good all around. I should have started logging how many shop hours I've saved over the last 25 years. It's a substantial amount and was part of my power point sales pitch to my accountant wife when selling her on the 5BW purchase...I wish that was just a joke, but its true, she HATES to spend money.

To spend that money on shoddy, subpar work and you usually have to fix it yourself or take it back and complain? Yeah, my neighbors think I am crazy for all the "car" work I do. I think they're crazy for paying those rates and repair bills.

I like to do my own work also. When I am capable of it. These new cars are rolling computers and I am not tech savvy to do that kind of work. I do 99% of my washing and detailing. The local car washes around here (NY) will bang you at least $25 bucks for a regular car wash. I do have a local repair shop with smart , young geek techs and a reasonable hourly rate. I only go to the dealerships when its something very technical that they have the proper machines or when I need warranty work done. It seems that every year they are raising their hourly rates. Its ridiculous.
