CT5-V Blackwing (looking to buy 2025)
So I have a deposit down for a 2025 ct5-v blackwing. I was going to trade my 2021 bmw m4. I figure that the blackwing could be the last manual v8 and it gets such great reviews. Then I started to read about the inability to get snow tires. I use my m4 year round and put snow tires on during the winter. I live in New York so would dive it year round. I’m really most worried about the cold weather. I wouldn’t drive during any major storms so really just the next day when roads have been plowed. But it seems like they don’t make snow tires for it. Could I use a 275s square set up and can you put 275s on the rear and how would they look. I don’t mind buying extra rims so could I just buy two sets of the front rims and use them in a square set up during the winter. Would 275s look odd in the back and not be flush with the wheel wells? Thanks

I live in NJ. My '22 5 BW is a daily with 31k+ mi. 3rd Winter switching to my square set-up of 275 winters. 0 regrets. Get it. (By the way, I drive mine in the snow)

What rims and tires do you use? Do you need to do anything special to put 275s on the back like spacers?

I'll have to look up my exact specs from tire rack... but went with vredesteins and OZ's and no spacers. I'm in Florida for the weekend... but in the meantime search Tirerack... they've never steered me wrong... I've even spoken to them by phone back with my SS and I did something similar... and want familiar with them yet.

It's easier than you think. Most people on here are worried before they do it (totally understandable because there's no dedicated set-up for a 100k+ car), but if you're not trying to be wacky (definitely have some outliers here), then you'll be just fine.

With smaller square set-up I'm just extra careful with large speed bumps and my steep driveway (go slow and cut wheel).

Same square setup as @dribs15 from tire rack. I am in NY (LI) and this is my 3rd winter with this setup....no issues at all. It's pretty tight in the rear (paper thin space between the spokes and the calipers), but I did not want to do spacers. Specs on the wheels are 19 x 9 with 29 mm offset and the tires are 275/35/19s

I don't live in the snow so I can't add anything meaningful (story of my life), but if I had a time machine I would go back and check that $9-f'ing-thousand-dollar CCB option!! I really made a mistake there.

I checked that box and am glad that I did! (I guess it would be redundant to post the 'no ragrets' gif again)

I am in NJ and daily mine as well. On stock tech bronze rims and tires. No issues at all. I use sport + PTM Wet when it rains and snow mode if there is snow.

I am curious to how much more confidence a winter set up would improve drivability in these conditions…

I'm a pussy and park mine in the garage for the winter months. I use either my Grand Cherokee or my Telluride for the winters here on Long Island. I just got back with the Jeep, after driving 10 hours to Toronto, Canada. Halfway up NY into Binghamton, there was light snow on the ground with alot of salt. After just the weekend, my Jeep was covered in that winter grit. Still needs to be washed. I would never subject either of my Caddy's to that stuff. My Dodge Challenger is available for just cold days, but the Nitto tires I have on her , would just have me spinning my wheels if it were wet or snow. I wouldn't take the risk of driving my BW in the winter conditions.

The ps4s get rock hard under 40 deg F and could crack. I thought sport + PTM wet mode was for track use when wet.

When I owned a 2013 Camaro ZL1 (LSA engine) I had a winter setup with Pirelli Sottozero tires mostly to drive in temps below 40 degrees.

One time I had to drive my '13 ZL1 in 2-3 inches of snow. I quickly discovered a supercharged, high-horsepower car even with dedicated winter tires was not safe to drive in the snow.

By Thanksgiving, my Cadillac and Corvette are parked for the winter. My pickup truck or my wife's AWD SUV are the winter beaters in our household.

Not that I condone abusing BW's by driving them in anything but fair weather, but don't you guys use snow/ice setting in the drive modes (not PTM but the regular drive modes). At Spring Mountain it really neutered the throttle map and probably some other settings to make it more manageable in slippery conditions.

Yes I have used snow ice mode a couple of times..felt like the car lost 300 HP 😂. However the PTM + wet mode is for wet track driving.

I live in jersey. Blackwing 5v is a 3 season car. I have other cars with winter tires. But honestly, yes we got a lot of 20 degree days but there has been plenty of opportunities to drive it in 40 degree weather. So I don't use winter/all season tires and put it in snow mode when its dicey. At spring mountain they had a cool exercise where they switched it to snow mode in wet conditions and its impossible to spin out.

I find it so difficult to put snows on a 5BW.

I put snows on my SS 1LE last year and I have snows on my current C8 Stingray.

However its difficult for me to put snows on a 5BW because I know the car is special and I don't want to ruin it with salt, brine etc. Unlike the Corvette the 5BW is made out of steel and the underside of the car is exposed to the elements so it will be harder to keep clean and nice to allow it to last as long as possible.

As a forever car I find it difficult to subject it to winter conditions so I applaud everyone else who does.

yes def applaud those who be willing to drive it during the winter. i'm fortunate here in jersey i've had opportunities to still drive it in summer tires. But honestly i put winter tires on my g80 M3 and it was bouncy as hell with the vredesteins. i like the feel of summer tires as a personal pref. I agree its a special car and want to leave it that way!
