CT5 BW CAI - Finally

Why do they leave a giant hole in the top to suck in hot engine compartment air?
Lots of aftermarket air intakes are designed like this. It’s only open (for eye candy) when the hood is open. When the hood is closed it should be designed so that it seals against the hood like a closed box.

If you look at the rounded edges of the box, those are soft rubber pieces that helps seal when the hood is closed.

Im more curious if it actually made the blower noticeably louder. Pretty sure thats what everybody wants to know.

One guy on FB said it did basically nothing inside the car lol. Starting to think a DSX lid is the better route for audible whine.

The S&B/JLT unit is supposed to ship this month with pre order available. They have some clips if you scroll down as well.

I gave up, on S&B waited for over a year. First they said spring, then summer, now fall. I ended up buying the K&N and it works flawlessly no CEL's and runs great. Sorry S&B I tried but you guys kept giving me the run around. 🫡

I went with the K&N it took about 7 business days to get here
Love that way it looks and that extra SC wine :))
Hey there, curious if you feel like you gained power from the K&N intake? I installed mine and felt like I lost a ton of power. My previous mods are Kong X-ported blower, 2.3 pulley, 103 mm Throttle body and Brisk plugs. Now I have done Kooks 1 7/8" header and x-pipe with green cats. I was just curious if the intake is messing with the computer or?? Thanks in advance.

Might needs a retune for the ECU to incorporate it with all your other mods? I have honestly only installed the K&N intake and Corsa Exhaust that is all and I did notice a little more power with both mods but not enough to justify the expense, only the awesome sound.
Also, while I have your attention, would you recommend the Kong X-ported blower and was it worth the money?

It's been my experience that most of these open-air boxes don't seal that well to the hood or fender. And many also allow hot engine air to enter from below. I think the main reason they're designed that way is because 99.9% of dyno runs are made with the hood open. An open airbox with the hood open provides much better gains. It's all about marketing.

I recall an interview with Mrza and another one of the V-Club TechTalks that the Caddy group was painstaking in their approach to Airbox and exhaust design.

I think, as the aftermarket is discovering, the stock Airbox is really, really good.
Mirza told me the same when speaking with him at a few events. Stock is not pretty but highly effective. I do wish there was a way to have more intake and supercharger noise with a valve like the exhaust system or the selection options for My V.

Change the blower lid to one of the many options out there (expensive = yes) and you'll have all the blower whine you'll ever want. I went with MPI and its next-level different.
