V-Series Cadillac(s)?
‘25 CT5-V Blackwing MT
The dealership I bought from just rang me up to see if I know anyone looking for a 5BW. I said I’d throw the line out there on the forums.

It’s automatic transmission, black with the tan interior. I’m not sure what other packages it has. They told me but I suffer from C.R.S. (Can’t Remember Shit) so it went in one ear and out the other.

If you’re interested, the dealership is Corwin Buick, GM, and Cadillac in Reno, NV.

Man of my word, I put it out there for em.

Window Sticker if interested. Sticker shows it's a manual. They also have one in transit that is an auto with super cruise and some other stuff. MRSP around $116K

Not sure I'm allowed to do what I just did? 🙄

I know the dealership would appreciate it. One of the salesmen wants me to throw his number on here… not sure how I feel about that. I think I’ll just say that Nick was my favorite of the three guys I dealt with, and Samaj was cool but young/inexperienced.

I just saw the gas guzzler tax of $2100. I looked on my sticker and sales paperwork and NYS did not charge me gas guzzler tax back in 2022. I have paid it in previous years purchases of Suburbans.

I had to pay it. I thought it was because I live in CA. The salesmen had never heard of it before. 🤷🏽‍♂️

It's a federal thing (reference). I checked two random 2025 window stickers from Sewell Dallas, an A10 and a M6 and both had it ($1700). I don't really understand why the price is shown as $2100 in the online configurator...

A neat feature of my '07 Z06 is that it is rated at 505 HP but was not subject to the tax thanks to (the dreaded but easily defeated) CAGS solenoid, basically a hack to make the EPA mileage test numbers just a bit better by locking out 2nd and 3rd in certain common cases. I'm not sure why blackwings don't have CAGS, maybe it wouldn't make enough difference to completely avoid the tax.

I think gas guzzler tax started to be charged on BW in 2023 IIRC. I guess for those of us who bought 2022's, GM paid. I think that was part of the huge price increase for 2023.

How can any sales person not know what gas guzzler tax is?? I mean....c'mon

The tax is based on EPA fuel mileage and has been there since day one. Here are window stickers from two 2022's, one A10 and one M6:

The tax is is shown as $1700 and $2100 in the lower left "fuel economy" boxes. In 2022 this was included in the base price. Starting in 2024, the tax was broken out of the base price and turned into a distinct option line item.

Well, yes and no. My point was in 2022 it wasn't a line item. Starting in 23/24 it became a line item. As a line item, you really are paying for it.

Come on. Unless your window sticker didn't show a dollar amount for it (hint: it did) you paid a gas guzzler tax.

Let's see, the engine and transmission are not line items; does that mean we aren't paying for them?

I've looked at many 2022, 2023, and 2024 window stickers; the gax guzzler tax was not a separate line item until the 2024 model year. But all window stickers show a dollar amount in the "fuel economy" boxes.

When you say "GM paid", it's true. Just like GM paid for the engine and transmission. But it's actually false to claim you didn't pay a gas guzzler tax for your 2022.

IIRC, the tax was added as a seperate line item in 2023 which increased the car's MSRP by the same amount. Basically, Cadillac stopped paying the tax on behalf of the buyer.

Gas Guzzler Tax Added to Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing
It's a shell game. They moved the tax from one bucket to the other (perhaps making one bucket larger). The customer pays in either case.

Quoting from your reference:
[...]
The Gas Guzzler tax is a pass-thru tax that GM collects from dealers/customers and pays to the government.
[...]
Previously sold CT5-V Blackwings will NOT have this tax incurred direct to customers.
So indirectly incurred to customers (via the base vehicle price).

You seem to think Cadillac is operating a charity (this would be big news to their stockholders!)

I think you've missed that the MSRP increased by the tax amount when the tax item was added to the sticker. Generally, when this scenario happens (the old price was x and the new price is x + y), people will informally say that the company was covering the thing (y) in order to convey the change in the perspective of the purchaser.

There is no shell game, no switching the taxes from one bucket to another. Cadillac's liability didn't change, though its income did.

But if you want to be technically correct (The Best Kind of Correct™), then you do you.

What I heard you say is that there was a mid-year price increase on the 2023 Blackwings.

It's obvious you're too invested in your position to see the light of day (let alone the economics).

Enjoy your "gas guzzler tax free" 2022.

@leres ...look, no pissing contest here. Not going to argue. Last time.....in 2022, it was not listed under options. 2023 and later, it became a line item under options. Did I pay it? Po-ta-to, po-tat-o. Point is... if I speced a 2023 exactly as my 2022, all other prices being exactly the same (ie, no price increases), the 2023 would be $2100 higher.
