2023 CT4-V Blackwing
My CTV-4 Blackwing is 14 mo old, just turned 7000 miles. Bought it at 14 miles, very clean. Well prepped.

From the beginning, the trunk has had a strange scent, nothing even remotely stinky has been carried in it. I've washed the heavy rubber floor liner with soap, hasn't helped.

Anyone else have a similar issue? Don

That doesn't seem normal. I'm assuming you're smelling mold or musty smell?

I'd get in as close as you can to sniff and pinpoint where the smell is coming from. It may take time especially if the smell is potent. Have you checked the trunk lid and behind the liners?

Maybe it needs to be aired out. If you could leave the trunk open and outside for as long as possible it may clear up.

Is there condensation in the lights or any visible signs of mold or stains behind the liners?

They make a moisture capture container called damprid, that may help.

Remove the rubber mat for a weekend and leave the trunk open. Rubber smells funny sometimes and that's why I don't use it.

I've done that and have used some Windex which is showing promise in reducing the smell. Going to let it air out until this evening. Pretty sure I'll have a worthwhile improvement. Don

I think I've exhausted my options for getting a pleasant smelling trunk or at least a neutral scent. It's certainly a good bit better than before though. Don

I've begun doing the same in my cars as well. I grabbed a package from a different place on Amazon earlier this year.

So, odor in the trunk but not the car? You don't describe the smell, but aside from the usual culprits (carpet, rubber mat, adhesives) perhaps the flat tire kit is leaking enough to be smelly?

I have a real spare tire sitting in my trunk, so right now it just smells like... tire. Which isn't so bad.

I had a (new) C7 Corvette that smelled like glue. I left the windows down and the hatch open all the time, and it still stank. That was the main reason that I got rid of it. That and the lousy ergonomics, the crappy paint, the stupid 7-speed transmission, the numb steering and the horrendous road noise. I now have a C6, and it just smells like leather. Mmmmmm. And it really is just better in every other way, sometimes newer is not better.

Sorry for the digression.

Hard to describe the smell but it's only in the trunk. I have some charcoal bags coming this evening. I'm hopefull that they will attack the smell. Don

Don,

Coincidentally over the weekend we stopped and got chili burgers and someone spilled something somewhere in my wife's mazda. The whole cabin wreaked, I couldn't trace the smell. My wife put this Fresh Wave product in the back and within a day or two it was completely gone. This stuff is a miracle worker. I'm hoping you can try this and it will resolve your issue, please report back I am interested in finding out how this goes for you. I've used the charcoal bags and they work for faint smells but when the smell is potent this stuff works much faster.

This one comes with a container but we have the larger 63oz non scented and I cut the bottom of a water bottle apart and filled it with fresh wave and taped the top and poked several holes in it and put it under the seat. Try it, I think it will work for you.

Thanks for the input. I just put a charcoal bag in the trunk, will see how that goes. If it isn't a significant improvement, I'll try your option. Don

Don- I hope you pulled out the lining to get to 'ground truth.' If water is getting into the trunk you'll want to get it fixed sooner rather than later:

Yep, I've pulled everything that is removeable out of the trunk to check things out. Dry as a bone. The charcoal is helping a bit but not as much as I hoped for. Don
