Unofficial Performance Supplement for Blackwing 4 & 5

Thanks for the info. I will need to make some adjustments. I am running bone stock and I think that the brakes are weak compared to my old M2 Comp. I am just making turn 1 at NJMP on full brakes

But I have these on order per suggestions from fellow owners:

That's interesting. I thought my 4BW outbraked my previous 718 Cayman S immensely. I have driven a M2 comp before and did agree those brakes were pretty gnarly (but never did push them as hard as my BW brakes).

Also, SRF FTW.

brakes are funny like that. They can FEEL one way but perform another.

A big source of "butt dyno" inaccuracy comes from initial bite. On a dyno ,it would be a spike and then it comes back down. It feels like, oh man, I have strong brakes, but you dont want that. You want a smooth and consistent bite. Otherwise, you'll engage abs and then be way below threshold. Or hit threshold and then come back down.

At the end of the day, I've found that time cures most defects. You just get used to it. I switched between three track cars last weekend, each with very different braking feel. By lap 4, you just get used to it. After a full session, you're reprogrammed. Virtually all race pads these days won't fade and even less lack total system power to lock up every wheel at very high speeds, so it's just feel that's left.

And yes, SRF ftw. I have no idea why anyone at HPDE runs anything different. Why the heck people run Motul and bleed every track day and flush every 3-6 months is beyond me. Just put SRF in there and flush it once a year, if that.
I'm absolute hell on my brakes. If there's one thing I've gotten good at over my ~15 pro coaching lessons and probably ~10,000 track miles, it's braking hard AF. I ran SRF and didn't touch it but once every 12-18 months in my C7 grandsport with 60 TW 315 front tires and never came close to an issue.

My buddy ran it in his spec miata and he had a master cylinder failure. Literally, dragging like 10% brakes for a full day. It was so hot, tires prematurely failed, he went through half a set of front pads (normally last 10-15 days) and wheel bearings went, but the brake fluid was just fine. That was 10 month old SRF lol.

Only reason I flush mine is because I rebuild my calipers once a year.
