Steering clunk

My 4BW steering has started clunking. It’s when I transition from left to right or right to left. Clunks every time almost feels like a gear is missing a tooth as it skips over.

Anyone deal with this? Scheduled time at the dealer which I don’t like taking it in at all costs.

A couple of my old CTS's went through rack and pinions. I'd like to think the tech has changed since then.

Look your springs over closely. The mechanic prepping the car at the delivering dealer could have left one or both of the blocks in the springs that are installed at the factory for shipping purposes. If you see one, jack the front end up one side at a time to take the weight off the spring. Then you can just reach in and pull it out.

They forgot to remove my shipping spacers and yes I was getting a klunk sound when I turned the steering wheel. Oddly it only made the sound when I turned wheels to the right. You have to bend down to ground level then look up into the front springs to see them. It’s easy to miss they are still there

I have a whole laundry list of extra PDI items for my dealer I got from reading this forum and that one is #2 on the list right after 'do not install the front license plate mount or else you will be buying me a new bumper.'

Check that your front sway bar end links haven’t worked themselves lose. This was an issue on some Camaro ZL1s. The end links weren’t tightened properly from the factory. The cars would make a clunking noise slowly going over bumps.

Well dealer diagnosed the rack as the issue so getting new rack and pinion. I was hoping wasn’t the case as you need to drop the subframe. Oh well at least I have a loaner. Driving a Lyriq and you know what it’s better than expensive expected
