Now that the CCB is a requirement for the Precision Package, the only way to get both the Precision Package and inexpensive rotors (relative to carbon ceramic) is to go aftermarket. I have been emailing GiroDisc regarding creation of steel rotors for our CCB setup. They are willing to make us front and rear rotors if we can supply them examples.

Does anyone have used front and rear carbon ceramic rotors they can send to GiroDisc? They would prefer new ones but can work with used ones. I would be willing to pick up the shipping costs.

Why change them? Much lighter, no dust, will last 100k miles street-driving.

Cost is the main factor. Much cheaper to replace metal than carbon ceramic. Plus, I can easily determine if a metal rotor is at the end of its life by measuring the thickness. Carbon rotors need to be removed and weighed.

The extra weight of the metal rotors is only a minor concern. I don’t get any prize money from being in HPDE so being quickest in a group is not a goal. Plus, if I was truly concerned about weight reduction, I could start with the driver. :)

I know people do that, but it is usually for dedicated track use, which doesn't seem what people usually do with a big car like this.

Yeah at the point you're considering adding a $18k track package, you should probably be considering a Corvette instead.

I thought that one of the benefits of CCB was better performance - little to no fade - on the track. Seems like you're kind of defeating the purpose if you go to steel. But I get the cost factor, fer sure.

Many moons ago when I campaigned a Corvette on track, I had some Brembo brakes up front with a ridiculous replacement cost (these were not OE) so I found a shop in Michigan (Coleman Racing) that would custom make replacements for me. That may be an alternative for you folks as well. Linkie here: Brake Rotors

Yes, Cadillac engineers the car to be high performance, with the highest performance having ceramic brakes for optimal track times, etc. Then, people remove them in favor of steel. So if someone who is actually going to do some track events with their car isn't going to use the ceramics, then why offer them? I don't see the use case, other than bragging rights and clean wheels.

PS - I have them and love them

...and ~100k before replacement (w/o tracking)
... I'm holding onto mine, so I'm just thinking how much would I be spending on replacement pads and rotors during those miles anyways

The steel setup has the same braking power as the CCBs on the 5BW with no fade on track in my experience. Hence the real reason for me to own CCBs is to have clean wheels. My current car has steelies but I'm barely getting to the track these days so my next car might have CCBs instead (no choice if I want the PP option.)

Ha.

Yes, all of the GT3 guys have steel rotors on their dedicated track cars.

But if you are only occasionally tracking your BW, I'd just leave the carbon ones on there...
