2024 CT5 BW
New member here and my “new to me” CT5 Blackwing will be arriving in about a week. It’s a 2024 Cyber Yellow with manual. Coming from my last GM car which was a C6 ZR1, I’m somewhat familiar with the engine/platform and want to do a couple things to increase power. Not looking to do anything extreme like heads or cams, mainly looking to do a couple tweaks to unleash some easy HP. In some searching, seems the new group B ECU has the ability to learn and not throw CELs with certain bolt-ons. Reading and watching a few articles and videos, looks like the Kong ported supercharger and drop in filter can add up to 60whp and still maintain a safe AFR. Before I go and do this, wanted to see what others in the blackwing community have to say about it and if there’s a different path or any issues with this approach. I’ve usually always just tuned my cars, but the unlocking and hassle of doing this with the new ECUs is making me not want to deal with that unless I really need to. Thanks in advance.

You could always Start off on the cheaper side and pulley down. Spin that blower a little harder you could probably get your 60 hp for $300 or so. Griptec has a few options for pulleys.

Does that require a tune though?

My used 22 BW had Kong blower, smaller pulley and ported TB. I swear it made less torque down low than my stock '24.

Curious about the pulley swap, seems easy, but never heard of anyone doing it.

It's a very common LT4 mod. Unfortunately, it increases the heat.

Not much of an issue for street driving I guess. I haven't really read about anyone on here doing it I guess.🤔

I did the whole pulley, port, intake etc on my ZR1 and had to add some cooling mods even for the street as the IATs got too high. I would expect the same with a smaller pulley on the LT4.

I would not do a pulley swap without tuning. The increased cylinder pressure from the added boost will require adjusting the spark table to prevent detonation. As others have said, you’ll also need to add cooling mods to control the heat and keep the ECM from pulling timing.

I would contact Tapout Tuning. They have a lot of experience with no-tune ported blower and throttle body on these BW cars.

I too have heard that the any gains from a ported blower occur in the upper RPM range.

I agree with most of this with the exception of the Tap Out rec for the LT4. With all due respect, they're experts on the LF4 and are just getting into the LT4. There are many shops already much more familiar with the LT4 from Corvettes & Camaros. No need to reinvent the wheel unless, Tap Out is the closest reputable shop to you. They're in the Columbus OH area.

Ported blower, 103MM TB and 2.3 Pulley along with longtube headers with no tune showed gains added with each mod. Done with tapout, and once the ECU was able to be tuned my car was the one used by HP tuners as a test bed. The factory ECU had no issues adapting to those mods and made it 4k miles of abuse before the tune. After tune the peak HP was not that much higher, but the powerband overall felt smoother, and i mean smoother then a fully stock 5BW that was on deck to drive.

Welcome. I did a Kong ported blower and a Nick Williams 103mm throttle body. She is making 754 at the fly wheel. Nice adders with no issues at all.
