Well gents, I’m in day two of ownership of my 5BW and caught a screw. Would you replace or repair?

Tire shop may not give me a choice

Typically through the tread, when it has good life, and your "regular" screw type hole is fixable.
I have had 2 like that fixed in the last year. One in the BW and one in my wife's truck. No issue to date with either tire after repair.

Plug that all day long.

Seems like all new owners are getting nails/screws lately?

To be absolutely safe I would plug it and then patch from the inside. If the plug ever worked its way out, the patch is there for backup.

Do tire shops still do plugs? I got the impression a lot of them only do patches
Its a combination plug/patch. I believe that is the only "approved" method of patching the tires by whatever entity approves these sort of things. At least that's what they say. I often just plug it myself because they scratch the wheel almost every time they take the tires off.

Discount Tire used to do that type of repair for free. Take them up on it if they still do.

I got one in the same location a few weeks ago. I just used the plug kit from O'Reilly and that did the trick.

I had a 2013 Camaro ZL1 the got a nail in one of the rear Goodyear Super Car 2 tires. Discount Tire patched and plug the hole. Only way they would patch the tire. Drove on the tire two years without any issues.

Not only did they do it for free this AM. They found one on another tire and did that one too. I gave the techs $40 for their trouble. Cannot believe that's free.

I get why they do it. They know you'll eventually come in and buy tires from them if they do. But it's still refreshing to experience.

I've used the rubber strip with rubber glue type thing many times in the past with no issues but I upgraded to the mushroom plug a few years ago. It's the only way I know of that allows you to keep the tire mounted and seal the hole from the inside.

As someone who just went through five fucking screws in their tires.... get that one fixed. No need to replace it.

I would repair.

Keep in mind a repaired tire loses it's speed rating. So if you are planning on tracking, replace the tire.
