Hello Everyone. Does your console look like this?

My did. And, so does the new 2023 at Smail Cadillac. What are the odds that they were poorly cobbled together in the exact same way(?)

Nonetheless, the section with the purple arrow snapped together with little effort. For the red arrow, the clip underneath refuses to seat. After a few bending attempts, a small piece of a toothpick placed in the bottom of the clip did the trick. It snapped exactly into place and is holding. (yes, a toothpick was used on a premium automobile to fix a console and avoid infinite trips to a dealer. Good thing that there were still 4 in the box.)

Not too surprising. My lower b pillar trim is barely holding on and has at least 2 bent/broken clips. Eventually I'll buy a new replacement for it just to have.

You need to take the shifter off and spread out the metal clips on the CF panel. I know because that's what I did. I have the instruction in PDF if you go that route.

Yepper. That was my first attempt.

The clip where the X is in the photo just wouldn’t hold. I had to space clip down slightly to relieve the tension. That is where the toothpick came in. Inserted it into the nose of the metal clip, which prevented the clip from seating 100%. It was just the right formula to hold the CF down and keep the clip seated.

Seems par for the course for cars these, no matter the manufacturer. This is how I had to keep my column shifter from buzzing on my old AMG.

My CT5 is fine, but my Chevy Volt totally had the exact same problem. Just wasn't quite clipped in from the factory.

Like ukcats12 said, seems par for the course. There's so many different small attachment points/clips/etc... something somewhere is probably gonna get missed.

No problem with mine.

My CF shift console had a small crack in it on delivery. The first time they replaced it they damaged it. They ordered another part and replaced it and while the CF was good the panel was loose (I could pull it up 1" no problem) at the back right corner as you showed in your photo. I took the panel off and spread a few clips and reattached and after that no issues. The shifter comes out for this, but it's not a big deal.

I remember one of my BMWs (I think it was an E46) had a buzz coming out of the headliner. Rather than deal with the dealer, I pulled it down, stuffed a paper towel in there, and voila! Problem solved, no toothpicks required.

I had a similar issue on an Audi S5 (the cool one with the V8) in the sunroof. That was actually quite a PITA to fix, but was also basically just a matter of sloppy assembly.

Out of all the cars you have owed what has been the best build/quality?

Hmmm. I've owned a few BMWs that were literally problem-free. A few, like 2 (out of 15). Thinking back, it could actually have been 3, and those were the most recent ones. Pretty solid. This is overlooking the "they all do that" issues that are just part of the design.

I had a Mercedes E class that was rock-solid, but oh-so-boring to drive. My SS was almost problem free, one one-time glitch with the infotainment system resolved with a restart.

Of all the Porsches, Audis, Corvettes and of course most of those BMWs, I don't think there was one that didn't have something wrong with it. Of course, as has been pointed out by many people, I am quite particular, OCD and persnickety. Or just a PITA, as others have mentioned.

I wonder if anyone came across the paper towel since....major WTF moment I'm sure.

I had the same issue with my Mercedes E53. It was an electronic box underneath the headliner in the back. I put a sheet of silicon rubber over it and it fixed the problem.

Today I noticed that the carpeted base below the back driver's side seat extends a few inches more forward than the passenger side. The carpet seems to have some dead space underneath as well. Seems to be fitted poorly around the left side of the drive tunnel. Is there something on the driver's side that would require this asymmetry? Kinda making me nuts now knowing it's like that. May take a few pics tomorrow.
