HUD without data recorder?

Hey guys, looking to order a 4BW shortly and I really want the HUD but don’t think I need the data recorder. Is there a way to get the HUD without? In the configurator it seems to add the data recorder anytime you add in the HUD.

Thanks.

They appear to be part of a bundle now. FWIW the PDR is a cool feature to have that can’t be added later if you think you might want it.

I never would have considered ordering one with it. When I bought my BW4, used, it was optioned. I've gone back to it more times than I could count now. It's worth it.

Same here. I had an order in without it thinking it was a waste for a car I wouldn't track. But I ended up getting a car in inventory instead that had pretty much all the options including PDR. I'm glad I have it now even though I don't use it much. I used it for the Cadillac parade laps at the Detroit GP and use the video occasionally. I think it's worth it and not much in relation to the overall vehicle cost.

Missing out on the PDR is my only regret in my order.

The HUD is invaluable on its own too.

Ok well, thanks for the input guys. I’ve wanted a HUD on my next vehicle for 2 vehicles now and I’m simply refusing to go without this time so I’ll be getting the recorder I guess. It’s nice to hear that everyone thinks it adds value/use cases to the car.

It's funny, before I got my BW I thought I wanted the HUD too, and was looking forward to it. Now even though I have it on all the time, I hardly ever look at it. It is also barely visible in the daytime with polarized sunglasses.

I don't get it....I have had the HUD on my vehicles for the past 7 years and I don't think I ever look at it. I have never looked at whatever the PDR is recording.....unless I get into an accident or something along these lines, why would I?

You sound like someone who needs to get to Spring Mountain! If you use your car for any type of motorsports the PDR is super useful. You can also use it to record "laps" on your favorite back road section or cloverleaf. The PDR records a LOT more data than just the video you can watch back in the car.

Polarized shades. I can't understand how they ever got popular. They are completely useless inside of a motor vehicle. They're even useless when I'm on my bike looking at the outside of other people's vehicle windows. I can see this as an obstacle to enjoying the HUD.

Am I the only one who sees the opaque grid on the glass when wearing polarized lenses ?

Wearing polarized sunglasses, I have no trouble seeing the HUD in my Z06 and wife's MDX. In my 4BW, I lose a some brightness and all color but can still see the HUD clearly.

You need different polarized glasses. They are great for driving, and cut glare way better than non-polarized. Try Costa or Maui Jim.

I think that's a feature, not a bug. My experience with Maui Jim's is that I can't see the HUD what so ever. Oakleys I have no problem. Removing glare is the polarized main function. HUD is just a glare.
