Couldn’t find any existing threads in here regarding the topic…..my driver door exterior handle randomly stopped functioning. Interior handle works fine and the crest on the exterior still locks the car. Was hoping it was as simple as some frozen water trapped inside (Michigan was single digits last week) but it warmed up today and still was acting up. Anyone have this happen? Still under warranty (27k miles) but cringing at the thought of the dealer pulling apart my door panel as I have zero interior rattles and I want to keep it that way.

Not heard of the issue before, but seems inevitable over the life of the car. Call me a luddite, but what was wrong with a good 'ol mechanical handle?

Just talking out of my rear, but maybe disconnect the battery to reset the module?

Dealer will say it's because of your newly installed Corsa exhaust... warranty voided :ROFLMAO:

Just happened to me too. Ordered one. Getting it painted and put in this week (under warranty as well)
Same symptoms? Noticed my handle still lights up too. Seems to be the cable or whatever links the handle to the actual mechanism. Looks like I’ll be dropping off to the dealer soon.

Yep. Don't think it's the cable. I think it's the (lack of) electronic signal.

It's probably just that little switch that you depress to unlatch the door.

Potentially useless digression: I recently parted with my 2008 C6 Corvette. The C6 was the first generation to use these new-fangled door latches where you have a switch that causes the door latch to release. One of the issues the car had was that in the cold, it wouldn't work. Sometimes the door light would blink, sometimes the window would index and then go back up, other times just nothing. An infrequent problem on the forums, recognized as being a fault with the computer module that communicates with the fobs and the door latches. Solution: replace module. Problem: part is NLA.

I was at a classic car auction, and there was a Caddy XLR there, which was based on the same generation C6 Corvette, and the doors on that thing wouldn't open correctly either. So this is one of the things that concerns me with long-term ownership of our cars, the needlessly complex and over-engineered features.

You owned BMW's before right? So you should be very used to that:) Germans love to over-engineer.

But even somewhat simple cars can have the same problems. Mass manufacturing makes it possible to make millions of some widget cheaply, then they retool for something else and won't go back to making that widget. When stock runs out you need to hope some other company decided to make that widget instead, or get the part from a junkyard. But everything ages anyway and you can't preserve a mechanical or electronic device forever. All the more reason to get out there a drive the hell out of your cars. They won't last forever, and you can't take them with you.
