2025 CT5-V Blackwing
Picked up my 6MT 25 BW a month ago, did the break in process, and swapped the oil and differential fluid. Ever since picking the car up, I've been surprised at how noisy it is given everyone says the car is silent. The main noise starts around 2500 rpms and above, even on light throttle, and sounds like an evenly ticking sewing machine. It gets faster with RPM and is very consistent.

My last car was known for having very noisy direct injectors, so I assumed it was that. However, I've talked to a few local BW people now, all of whom say that their car is silent and they can't hear the injectors.

Anyone else think their engine is noisy?

Injectors are not loud. My 22 Blackwing was noisy because the wrong oil was used by the dealer. I changed it and the typewriter, stuck lifter sound went away.

Are you saying that there was insufficient quality oil used when you picked your car up originally, or that they put the wrong oil in after the first free oil change?

My 22 was bought used, I have no idea who had changed the oil, but it was a CPO car. It had a ticking sound, I changed the oil and it went away.

Got it. Good to know man. I will eventually be doing my own oil changes as I purchase the right equipment to do so (not sure why I’ve waited so long, got lazy after switching from Silverado with 6” suspension lift to coupes/sedans). Until then however I have a shop that I trust to do everything correctly.

Not saying its oil for aure but if it was me, step 1 would be a new (on spec) oil and filter change and then reassess

If it has been that way from day 1, I would maybe bring it up to your dealer. Shouldn't come from the factory that way. Make sure they check the oil plug using that TSB that was recently posted on here.

Selling dealership is nearly 2000 miles away, so I'll need to find a local Cadillac dealer that is competent. I also need to check my oil change receipt probably...

Edit: Checked the receipt. Oil looks right (19370233)

126870-1 is what I use, not sure exactly what that oil is (ESP Mobil 1), but maybe it is acceptable?

This was back in 2022. ESP was re-branded to Supercar.

Also be aware, GM loves to change part numbers for the same item.

As an update on this, Cadillac thinks it might be the early signs of a lifter failure so they're going to swap the lifters on one bank. The noise was never very loud, so I'm hoping it's a lifter only swap.

Oil plug was correctly seated.

Yeah, that's VERY early 😲

Yikes. The MY 2025s are not off to a great start. I think GM is drowning with 6.2L L87 failures and are probably being proactive to avoid swapping another LT4.
