I would like to paint my 4BW (black leather seat) white piping red, but would like to confirm whether the piping is leather or vinyl so I can use appropriate spray paint. Does anyone know for certain? I am not sure I can tell just by looking at it under magnification.

Have you done this before? What type of protection do you have to put on top of the paint to preserve it and what type of special paint do you need that's pliable enough to not flake off when the piping bends?? Just curious as have never thought of doing something like this on my own (did something similar for a boat but at a professional upholsterer years ago.)

I have not done this before, but reading reviews, the product does what it is meant to do. I would mask around the piping and put down a few coats of spray paint like Dupli-Color HVP-100 (if vinyl). Leather specific spray paint is available on Etsy, but I am sure elsewhere as well.

Nothing needs to be added on top of the dye, as it absorbs into the base material.

Interesting, thx!

I've been thinking about doing this since before I got my car. I wondered if that white piping could be dyed black or red. I really think it doesn't look right.

Please keep us updated 🤞🏼

I will. White piping on black seats looks weak. I will find a way to die it red one way or the other.

Yeah, white is a little out of place I think

I have the black and never thought the white piping looked bad. I also had no clue that it was changeable.

It doesn't seem promising so far. I have had responses ranging from "you can't do it without taking the piping off and then stiching it back in" to "It will be less than replacing the piping, but I will get back to you". My original dyi plan isn't going to be feasible and doing it right is going to be expensive. Probably far more than I am willing to pay for it.

Sharpie and blue tape!
